I don't understand how the author goes from 3.8 WAF(Write Amplication Factor) to 2.0 WAF and gets a 30x increase in endurance. I'd expect about 2x from that. From what I can see, he seems to be taking the 120TBW that the OEM warra

I've never seen anything that complex in my experience, and it would be considered bad code pretty much everywhere. Rule #1 of programming is to make code easy to understand and self-documenting. This should be a sequence of typedefs w

Jamulator was unsuccessful because so much extra hardware was on the cartridges. Recompilation complicates things and doesn't provide many benefits in that situation. The N64 is fixed hardware, so it's a little bit easier. Even so

We know the observable universe was part of the big bang and is expanding, maybe even because we're observing it. We have no concept of whether that dense spot was all there was, and there are a whole slew of other caveats, so it cou

You can static-link in all of Qt. Just build Qt yourself. It can strip out all the things you don't need, even symbols from the libraries you do use, so your binary isn't going to be that big.

There's guides online for using Microsoft's DISM tool to install the Group Policy stuff on Windows Home. There's also some surreptitious tools to change the edition of Windows, but that's more of a gray area.

The article's screenshots are using scalable fonts without hinting bytecode instructions built in. Many modern fonts don't have those because of anti aliasing and auto-hinting. You can see the terminal font is fine because it'

Xcursor doesn't predate PNG. Heck, it came alongside a tool, xcursorgen, that could be used to process pngs and generate the binary cursor files. Xcursor appeared somewhere around 2002-2003 as an extension of Xrender. Before that X had

Not "free speech" as part of the US Bill of Rights, free speech as in "the EU ethics would never have such language in the DMA to forbid it or allow such a violation to stand."

You could, but few people are going to fall for that. Are you offering something that would entice people away, something huge like Fortnite? Most non-technical people will stick with the App store.

I had the same thought. bc would have been a lighter choice. And tryauuum, I think the author only needed powers of two to emulate floating point in the first place. So they could just divide said number by 2 a number of times.

A negative power, i.e. 2^(-n) is just 1/(2^n). I'm surprised the author didn't remember that with their own 2^-1 = 0.5 example and eventually reached out to awk for it.

LLMs can only reproduce what has been done before. For many tasks like web programming it can do a lot of what you need because it was trained on that data many times over. When you need to use a concept or knowledge that's fairly rare

There's no circuit-level reproduction happening anywhere yet, it's basically emulation with a hardware clock. Analogue and kevtris know that FPGA isn't magic. Rather than contribute to the knowledge pool, like the MiSTer proj

The higher end M2s just run more chips in parallel. The bandwidth is there to support the GPU. The latency of LPDDR is higher than desktop RAM, so it relies on the cache to get around that, and the cache is about the same as most x86 CPUs.
