Completely agree. That's the anti-competitive spirit that prevents good ideas from happening :) I agree with the author's other 4 points, however. I'd hate to see a fourth console out there buying up exclusives, seeing another contender in

While it's important that the passwords aren't stored in plain text, it should be noted that it is also the last line of defense, not the first. There are plenty of other things to stop you on the way there (not having access to the email,

It seems to reveal some, but not others. A friend of mine at work picked up on Twitter within the past week, and his profile is private. His first tweet shows up, but no others, though I can see a few his friends have retweeted his messages

I like it. I'm not sure what it is about lists that I like, but I must say I'm enjoying the fact that they seem to be the next step past tutorial lately. Lots of fine looking projects coming from it.

I'm not disputing the 'rumor' part, but what other "Big Sites" make use of OpenID?

There are also plenty of sites built around this specific function. http://keepvid.com will provide the links to all versions of the file.

Seems apparent that this article really struck a nerve with HN :) I agree with your post wholeheartedly and on all accounts. You don't get readers without starting some arguments, though.

I noticed this (though not in regards to the traffic - I only read Hacker News and not the associated blog/news) and had some itching curiosity as to why there was so much Erlang discussion going on. I figured HN had some strange seating in

The first paragraph of this article by itself leads me to believe this is some strange propaganda. Perhaps the term "Followers" is being taken much too literally by the author, but I'm afraid that the million people following Ashton Kutcher

I agree. If it's at all possible to do this, it would be interesting to see when a language generates buzz and why. We could end up with something like finance.google.com for programming languages :)

Doesn't this fall into the category of correlation and not causation? In either case, it's not the destination, it's the journey :) Being a 'star' might be important to some people, but I would argue that most will not waste their time if t

I struggled with svn when I first started out with version control for this reason. I often found things explained as "this is how you do it" or "What if you want this? Type this!" which doesn't tell me anything unless I'm asking the correc

Out of curiosity, why did you limit sign ups? Other than that, I like your approach. I find a lot of to-do apps out there have a lot more in mind than just keep track of what you want to get done.
