I worked with type like this back in the day. The burnish type reproduced much cleaner than this stuff. The big problem with the acetate was the edges. Some would reflect light and require quite a bit of touch up once the negatives were mad

Digg was bought out for the name and is a news aggregate site without comments. I'm trying to like Lemmy but it really needs a data dense "old.lemmy" interface. I doubt I'll stick with it...

Nothing, really? I've been following "popular" and it's all low quality rage bate and reposts. New stories are molasses slow in showing up, the same stories will be there the next day or even the day after rather than a

I'm with you. Moved up from California half a decade ago and I don't think I've ever self pumped gas into my current car and I thoroughly enjoy that fact. The only time I've encountered lines is once in a blue moon, the

Odd. I think it might be something else. I've been lurking Lemmy as I decide what to do about reddit and have not noticed any unusual loading times. The page linked to above takes two seconds to load (the spinny things stop turning and

The base Lemmy site does allow that. It looks like every button should lead to sign up dialogs but doesn't. Just select a serer, then join a server, hit communities at the top and select all in the green menu. I don't know if it s

Ya, I figured that out when I decided to give it a go and sign up. It takes two screens that look like one needs to sign up (just about everywhere else on the net would require it with a similar screen) but then it lets you pick a server wi

The problem with the Fediverse as it currently stands is it goes against my long time use of forums. I'm usually only logged in on a desktop where I would post comments from. Most of my reading happens on pad, mobile or work where I ha

If it's perceived as profitable or core to the business, the latter more likely, I would not be surprised if quite a few companies try their hand at a reddit like endeavor. I hold out hope that who ever owns slashdot would add user ge

I would think they would treat it like youtube and allow it to lose money, at least at first, in order to support their core business.

If it's this important to google, couldn't they just buy Reddit with what amounts to pocket change? That would be an interesting plot twist...

I think there are a lot of people wondering if the "even more user-hostile changes" are a loss of old.reddit. I knew of 3d party apps but none by name until this most recent incident as I am fine with old.reddit but the behavior o

Reddit seems to be dying for me for completely different reasons. Meme dependency for lack of a better word. Not the images with one liners though there are an annoying amount of those as well, but a standardized repetitiveness of responses

They kept running editions off the original wood plates but the plates slowly wear and because of that colors changed from edition to edition. My father bought a 3rd edition print in the 60's when he was in the navy stationed in Japan.

My wife started teaching a class at the local university. She had a bunch of positives on the anti-plagiarism software used by the university. She ran a bunch of papers by me and man, analyzing the results are an art within it's self.

It's likely a self solving problem. Through AI we are adding tons of fake information to the net. We will get to the point that a picture or video alone won't be definitive proof of anything. There will have to be back up evidence

As opposed to your pro-WL propaganda that is blatantly false? Yes, what you describe is how I and I think many others generally viewed wikileaks up to 2016. With the DNC email leak, that changed: https://www.theregister.com/

A bit hard to take this seriously when the author categorizes the Chinese navy as the worlds largest. The US Navy has fewer ships but almost five times the total tonnage. Not to mention this guy might want to ask the NRO about the chances o
