You can talk to your primary care provider about depression, at least in the U.S. If you don’t have a PCP, it’s true that you may have to wait a few months, but make an appointment anyway. Find out if you can get on a waitlist if a sooner a

The song “Rich Men North of Richmond” really captures the zeitgeist. It was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart in August. If you haven’t heard it, it’s worth a listen. “‘Cause your dollar ain’t shit and it’s taxed to no end” https:&#x

By that logic, babies, children, retired people, and folks too disabled to work are worthless. Do you really believe that? Please consider getting screened for depression if you haven’t been already.

I second this advice. Relatedly, I am in a Facebook group for $condition, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people post that a doctor prescribed them $treatment. Although $treatment is a very common thing to give to healthy peop

I disagree that it is reasonable to expect students to follow your suggested process. The instructor is being ridiculous here. For one thing, one AI “detector” will not necessarily return the same result as another.

Yeah. The other day, I asked a clarifying question that led to a long email chain among non-technical employees. Of course, the various VPs refer to each other by name, but when the resulting email chain got forwarded to me, I see that I wa

I hazard a guess that the most popular diet soda is Diet Coke, which contains significantly more caffeine than regular Coke. Even if there is a causal link between autism in the son and diet soda consumption in the mother, jumping to the co

The article seems to be implying that remote workers drive more because they live in more rural places, and some also take “several short trips” throughout the day that add up to more driving than their commute would have been. But why are

In addition to liability concerns, most people have really poor writing skills. Half the time, in my experience, management has only the vaguest notion of a plan or strategy, and writing it down would reveal how poorly thought-out their ide

I agree with most of what you wrote, but it’s puzzling to me that you think that proofs are more of a feature of discrete math than continuous (analysis). My first introduction to proof-writing was in geometry, and a majority of proofs that

Do you have a citation for this, or is it just a guess? I think my brain works this way (bottom to top). My child has an autism diagnosis, but I do not.

More anecdata, but I am remembering that I had to stand in line to enter the LEGO store at my local mall a couple weeks ago. I have been to that same store many times before and never had to stand in line previously. The restaurant I go to

You make a good point, but everything seems very busy at restaurants and shopping centers to me. Many times, I have wanted to go out to some restaurant and found that it was booked out for weeks. So I’m finding the “low volume” idea hard to

I’m not sure I believe that people have less discretionary spending, at least in the US. According to one article[1], hotel prices are up 54% year-over-year. Anecdotally, restaurant prices are up by a similar amount compared to pre-pandemic

In particular, there were stories about pregnant women being especially vulnerable to severe Covid. Those stories probably got a lot more attention in blue states and instilled more fear accordingly (rightly or wrongly).

Would CUXO be happy as Chief Product Officer? The whole thing sounds pretty silly, but if you want to be CTO, then CPO seems like a reasonable thing to offer CUXO (if you think he’s any good at product stuff, anyway).

Venture debt is a thing. I worked for a startup that had a loan through SVB ... so I don't think you're quite correct, though I don't know how common those loans were.

What price are VCs paying for concentrating too much of their portfolios into a bank that was careless? No price. And that is what is upsetting some people. The VCs didn’t concentrate their money like this for no reason. They got some benef
