Something is very wrong with your network then. I never needed to disable IPv6. Maybe you should question it.

I wonder if there will ever come a day when IPv6 will provide a better web experience than IPv4. At the moment pretty much every website is reachable via IPv4 but a lot not via IPv6. Will there be a day when this turns around?

I wonder what the power costs are when you put jet turbines in front of your DC to power it.

I'd like to see a bit of the running costs inside the napkin math. Power, cooling, maintenance, rent, etc. are probably significant factors as well.

True. I mean why would anyone want to give away their data.

I think the centralization on mastodon.social is a bit over estimated. According to fedidb.com there are over 1.1M active users in the fediverse. Of these mastodon.social has about 273k. That means mastodon.social has about 1/4 of the

Why is opt in "basically impossible". That is the definition of consent. Ask BEFORE you do something. It might sound strange but most people really don't want their data gathered by everyone.

Could be Linux as well since ZFS on Linux is pretty good now. It would fit in with their other devices which are also Linux based AFAIK.

Good. I am tired of the fact that no one is held accountable for the distortion of reality that is done by algorithmic feeds. These feeds can so easily be used to influence people. The curation of information is a manipulation of the real d

We're still pretty efficient while not having wheel shaped limbs. Running like humans works pretty well. So well even that we can chase a lot of animals longer than they can outrun us. There might be more efficient ways to move but we

I was the only full time sysadmin of a 20 person company. I went on vacation for three whole weeks. I was half way around the globe and not reachable. The company still existed after I came back. They did have a problem. They tried to reach

The idea with vacation is that you don't think about work. When I start vacation I disable all the channels that people usually use so that no one asks me even by accident. There needs to be a time when you are completely undisturbed a

Not to forget that you get a minimum of four weeks of vacation per year with 30 days being offered most of the time. This year I used my vacation time well and I already had 3 weeks off while I still have almost 4 weeks left.

This assumes that we won't need new hardware in ~2 years. I find that unlikely. So they have to make back what they got up until now PLUS the running upgrade/development costs. So what will it be in 5 years? $20t? $30t? It's
