Web assembly is the first time a binary assembly has been adopted as an open web standard. What do you propose as an alternative safe sandbox for other languages? Large quantities of code can already be compiled to WASM. Since Unison works

I really like the idea, I like the language, but the world will not be rewritten in Unison. A web assembly FFI story is needed for Unison to succeed.

I've written vim syntax files before. Syntax highlighting and an error tolerant syntax aware Text manipulation EDSL are very different.

Being a collection of commands that can be entered in a repl does not make it a text centric DSL Text manipulation in vimscript is more verbose than Rust including all ownership syntax. What elements of vimscripts design make it good at par

I have the displeasure of knowing vimscript. I have a couple plugins and contribute to others. vimscript is terrible, it's unintuitive, neither fp nor oop, and fails to integrate any domain specific features. It could and should be rep

If I didn't rely on neovim plugins so much, I would use kakoune. Native modal multi cursors and noun verb as apposed to vi's verb noun order have to be experienced to be believed. https://github.com/mawww/kako

Neovim has a lot more features. Neovim's equivalent of popups are floating windows, they are just normal windows so they can be harder to configure, but the end result it better. Tree Sitter ingratiation the next big feature actively b

I read this as information density in theory, not necessarily in practice. For this result to be true in practice evidence that ternary hardware can be manufactured and operated at the scale of binary hardware, e.g clock speed, error rates

I agree with you that there would be glue code and I don't doubt your right that MIR can be optimized more. But rust in the general case is agnostic about 32 vs 64 bit pointers and explicitly targets WASM. I'm not familiar with GC

It seems like it would be easier to make a WebAssembly front end rather than MIR. Just compile rust to WASM and use GCC compile to unusual instruction sets. There might be a small performance hit, but the WASM frontend could be likely be up

I have not yet read the article, but those terms usually refer to C11 memory ordering semantics. The Rust docs on atomic orderings are pretty readable. https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/sync/atomic/enum.Ordering.h

Distributing arbitrary lambdas and lazy computation of any sort is extremely difficult in GHC Haskell, hence the complexity and limitations of cloud Haskell. Unison makes a number of design choices to support distributed lazy computations.
