The GIL is per interpreter/process, so this wouldn't be related as far as I know. The GIL only really kicks in if you use threads in a single process. Then, the GIL will only let one single thread do actual work at a time, and wil

Just joined the discord! I'll also expand on this here though for anybody interested. We wanted a single library that would allow us to write an app, and either deploy it to employee computers locally (QT, so we could deploy standalone

The film (especially vfx) industry runs on Python, and so much code is written for Python. Same reason you'd want to run your server in node.js so it matches your front end code ( and you can reuse code on the front end and backend). P

Incredible! Two years ago I was experimenting in porting some code at the company I was at to python in the browser (instead of QT desktop apps) and this was the biggest thing I had to work around! I had to manually monkey patch or proxy a

Not exactly, but if you use something like Pydantic, you can check data at the boundaries of your application/library. If the data passes through the pydantic model, it's safe. Add static type checking of your code through mypy or

Agree, there is an open source runner called act, but when I tried it (briefly) it seemed to give different results from actual actions which is unfortunate An official local runner would be fantastic

The real question is always "but how good is it at killing non-cancer cells?" A bullet fired from a gun would be great at killing cancer cells too. Although in this case it seems like it's just an alternative to surgery, rath

Yeah, since we drove on the right side, a right turn is relatively safe to treat as a yield at a red light. As long as it's safe and clear to go, you're allowed to.

As far as I know, in order to make everything thread safe in the same way the gil did, they need to add locks in a lot of places to make sure that no two objects can be modified at the same time. Adding those locks will slow down execution

Lottie.js is a library for animations in JavaScript, and after effects can export to it! You're obviously limited in what you can export, but if you do a basic after effects animation with shapes and text, it works fine. Pretty sure it

Robyn is a python package written in rust, so they're not entirely separate things here. This also appears to be "constant requests" in Robyn, which seem to cache the results of routes that are static. It's neat though
