If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend reading 1984. I'm sure you read it in high school or whatever, but actually read it as an adult.

Agreed, the keyboard is awful. I just want a decent/good keyboard, an HDMI port, and just 1 USB A port, I'll definitely take 0.5mm thicker for those. Well, at least they kept the headphone jack... 32gb ram and an 8 core processor

Congrats! I was recently frustrated with the whole being accepted into YC, and then not really, but I really appreciate YCs efforts and influence. Staffing good advisors is hard, especially for the # of applicants, so I definitely understan

Agreed, I very much like systemd. The documentation could be a bit better (though I haven't looked at it much in the last year), but overall it's a good improvement. I first started using systemd with Arch before it got pulled int

I honestly don't know how we've been in a bull market this long. Trump's been turning a lot of economic knobs and the market hasn't really responded drastically like it has in the past. When it does crash, it's goin

I want native bash commands in Windows shell. I know powershell supports some commands, but and actual Linux shell to interface with the rest of windows will be awesome. WSL is getting there, sucks I've gotta install Python and node&#x

I really like brave, but right now FF is still my main. Brave is still needs some features. The whole syncing bookmarks and wallets thing is really annoying. I'm glad the way they devised is secure, and privacy sensitive, but it's

True...but inheriting code, not having time to refactor, and just getting a basic version out the door...pysnooper is pretty useful.

I looked at icecream and I really like pysnooper more. Especially for big complicated programs.

With python 3.7 you can just do 'breakpoint()' now, and it'll import pdb and run settrace. It also allows you to use other debuggers, pretty cool.

I missed this on HN last week but I just found it on Google. THANK YOU! I've been debugging weird serial errors for the last day, and this is helping a ton!

This...is my life. Not necessarily finding stuff on HN and pursuing them, but just projects in general. Here's how I deal with that: I don't start a project for a while, I think about how I'm going to implement it in pretty g

I've been programming since I was a teenager, and for a long time I found myself struggling with my syntax and edge cases. Once I started using python, about 10 years ago, programming quickly turned into "what's the best way

I had this problem last year, I ended up just rewriting an entire web application in a couple weeks. It wasn't a big or complicated app, it was only going to be used by a few people, but I had one requirement change that made me redo a

Signal is in no way tied to the US government though, just because the developers are here doesn't mean anything. And if you are talking about the servers being here, everything is end to end encrypted, even if the government was to tr

I tried for a couple months with the pixelbook...I couldn't do it. I ended up getting the surface book 2, and while I'd much prefer Linux for development, windows is far better than chrome for doing anything development-wise.
