@dang/mods, can this be re-titled? The original title is somewhat inflammatory ("Tell HN: Amazon Cloud Drive is banning encrypted content and backup data") and not strictly accurate. I suspect that's why it was flagged o

Looks like only Drive. Presumably they priced Drive based on being able to de-duplicate incoming data. Glacier is a fancy tape drive robot as a service; they're much more concerned with access frequency than data volume.

You'll inevitably run into tons of insufficiencies, edge cases, etc. but this is a _fantastic_ idea. My wife and I have scrubbed through lists for arguably one of the easier and more common linguistic-cultural pairings and they're

https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/feature/cloud_sync lists a bunch of other backend service providers in addition to Amazon Drive. From my experience, Backblaze is dirt cheap; I moved all my personal backups

I agree that automation would help out here--could you just hit Readwise's 'sync' page with `curl` and a cronjob?

Totally anecdotal: I've been an org-mode user for years, and have spent some time using RoamResearch directly as my primary notetaking tool. I _still_ haven't figured out how to use org-agenda properly, and it feels like I'm

A pretty familiar HN trope is calling in the Tech Billionaire Ex Machina to solve the world's problems. Most of the time this feels like myopic hero-worship ("why doesn't Zuck just fix free speech?"). In this case, thoug

My recollection (can someone verify?) is that Telegram continues to function in limited-connectivity environments, making it a good fit for situations where a state actor is limiting network access.

The framing that I’ve typically seen (from a Western, US-based background) is that the Tsar Bomba was the quintessence of the USSR’s overcompensation for their relatively inferior delivery systems. Bluntly, it doesn’t matter if you’re a mil

If you wanted to keep this off your local box, you could create a separate pinboard.in account, pay for their archival service, and script your browser to pin every URL you hit.

TFA, being in Wired, appears to be focused primarily on the tech industry. At the risk of being pithy, the best way to get a promotion in tech has--for a _long_ time--been to get a new job. Even if you do score an in-house title bump, your

My emotion-driven reaction here (“ha! They’d run out of lies from side A before scratching the surface with side B!”) is _exactly_ why trying something like this would be a good move.

The average consumer spends over $150 a year to not think about their router. Don't get me wrong, I hate on the big ISPs as much as the next guy, but this is pretty far down the list of their worst behavior.
