Basically, MacRuby is an MRI fork with the object system replaced by the one present in Objective-C (which is pretty similar). Integration is its main strength.

I don't see where Matt Aimonetti is breaking the NDA. He just refers to information someone else posted in public. Considering that someone else had to give him (a core developer of MacRuby) a tip that MacRuby is included in Lion, I would e

Sorry, but I missed the "obvious" part. He says that this incident made him "wary of the franchise", I think its pretty clear that he is not absolutely sure. Combined with the rumors, I do think he has a case.

Might I suggest that you also read the explanations in the first result? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/958681/how-to-deal-with-memory-leaks-in-rmagick-in-ruby/959473#959473

Mind that this is only true for vanilla Android, not for all Android phones.

I think the point here is: Net::HTTP has convenince methods to just "fire off a GET request" as well as the ability to hand-craft a request and send it over a pre-established connection (maybe implemented by myself).

Yes, but most high-performance libraries are MRI specific. I'm still searching for a good Net::HTTP replacement that runs on both MRI and JRuby.

REXML is kept because many projects that need a pure ruby XML parser rely on it and it works for them. Usually, if you use XML beyond something small, you should use Nokogiri. Actually, 1.9.2 ships with replacements where possible: for exam

That may be true in the "Rails ecosystem", but Ruby has a really vibrant community of people writing tiny gems for everything. It rarely has one accepted library for one problem, usually, there are 2 or 3. Actually, as a Rubyist, I do feel

Huh? I never had that problem and do actually like it that way. Train yourself to use the middle finger for "W" and the ring finger for pressing "Q" and the problem vanishes. It will still happen to you perhaps once per month, but I can li

The hype is that it was finally a framework that does not build on leaky abstractions like "business layers". The downside is that it sometimes adds a few others... By the way: the Rails hype was 3 years ago. Now, its just one implementatio

Well, Mongrel2 sort of acts like a common web interface, but only if the other side adopts it. It really depends, frameworks like Agavi do not use $_GET etc. and explicitly disallow their use.

It looks nice and much cleaner :). Is there a reason for the use of doc comments? My problem in the PHP world is: you have your Rack-style server. Another project has a different style. In Ruby, every framework nowadays is on Rack.

Aside from this being "Sinatra clone" #100, I think most people do not understand that Sinatra is about much more than its query and before/after-filter DSL: Its about its plugin API, its great integration into Rack (which PHP doesn't have,

The Ruby world had something like this, called RunCodeRun. They closed down and wrote down a nice list of things on how it didn't work. How do you see those problems? http://blog.runcoderun.com/post/463439385/saying-goodbye-to-...
