Thats interesting. As a liberalish European, I think DigitalOcean shouldn't be allowed to police their content, just as ISPs shouldn't be allowed to block websites at their whim. Thats clearly in the realm of courts and lawyers. D

Differences in userbases are definitely part of it.e.g. Ruby is very often used in the whole devops space - where constant forward-change is usual, because of the mindset of "never being done". Constant change is a thing that does

The 1.8/1.9 switch was problematic and can be seen in parallel with the python 2.7/3.x switch. Rails 2/Rails 3 was a similar big jump that reengineered the whole framework. Rails 4 was a much tamer release in that regard. But

I didn't talk about release processes. There are lots of projects with mature release processes in the Ruby world. What I meant is that agressively replacing parts that became obsolete or turned out problematic is much more accepted.

This is where the Ruby and Python communities fundamentally disagree. The Ruby community is great at moving fast and replacing bad things, while the Python community takes a much slower approach to the whole thing. I wouldn't say any a

It tends to drop your connection on large packs. Thats more a server configuration thing, many git hosts disconnect slow clients. I was in Botswana for a few weeks in November and I can relate to that sentiment: git was unusable down there.

There is an argument to be made that many people dislike sed, awk and find because they are hard to use. Which is fine, because there are other alternatives, thats why the are not complaining. git is a must-use for any software project that

Which JVM are you running JRuby on? AFAIK, the one included in OS X 10.6 is not really the best performing one. Running with a more modern VM might yield better results.

That might be true for you, but that still doesn't make it blogspam, necessarily. Content curation is a tried and true technique that some people love. I like reading the SO articles by arstechnica because I don't have to sift thr

I am not sure whether I would call this specific instance blogspam. It is a curated series arstechnica runs together with stackoverflow that presents the most interesting excerpts.

You can compile LaTeX to two different output formats if you want to. Sure, you'd have 2 different output files, but e.g. for slides, thats done very often.

The author ignores several advantages of LaTeX, one being: a commitment to forward-compatibility. On any recent version of LaTeX, I can still compile documents from decades ago with a reasonable chance that they still render the same.
