I've had a similar thought experiment before, where basically you let people of different political leanings go to their own countries with their like minded ilk. Two problems arise: 1. People tend to hold complex combinations of views

Land isn't automatically useful/valuable. It does need to be developed. If you took the land area of a city, and then went out bush and asked how much it cost for the same area, it would be pretty much peanuts. Yet land prices in

This headline screams non-article. I don't know how anyone who is not at least a billionare hopes to make any sweeping changes (let alone a utopia) in any context beyond a couple thousand people.

What do you mean by compressed? Classical music is usually cited with regards to "compression" in the context of dynamic range compression, not data compression.

I would counter that once someone goes from a common, well engineered brand to a less common, expensive, and equally well engineered brand, they'd have a hard time going back. You only need to look at clothing brands to see this everyw

A rare condition probably shouldn't be compared to something which can be learnt and practiced. Given how people can form strong opinions derived from what other people say, I would wager that most audiophiles do not fall into this cat

Have to be careful with this line of thought. Are costs high because workers are paid too much, or because margins are too high on necessities that workers need?

Even if you can tell, the question is, why fixate on it? As you say, the changes are far more subtle than getting a cheap set up. Most people do not live or commute in anechoic chambers. For myself, I'm happy to 128k opus or -v1 lame i

I would really love a go to for this, but System76 are still bound by what Clevo makes. Lots of it just isn't that interesting. Clevo, from what I see, is a specs first company, but I think we're a bit beyond that now. I'm fi

Kind of a shame that security houses are doing legitimate research, but the products they release just don't have the same effectiveness they used to. If sales of antivirus is dropping, where will they get their funding from? Perhaps t

I suppose I forgot how spread out the US is. Europe is just as spread out, but they have a decent train network. I'm from Australia, and our cities are a lot more centralised, that everything is either within 100km, or greater than abo

You've highlighted an important point: The long tail of old technology. If I recall, for some city in Europe, it was businesses running old vehicles that were crying out for exceptions on the rules to ban the older diesel vehicles. The
