Element X ( https://element.io/blog/deep-dive-into-element-x ) is intended to spell out how lightweight and unbloated an Element-style client can be. The only main missing features are threads and spaces which should lan

As a protocol, Matrix has all of these features (custom emoji is a proposal, but many clients implement it). As a client, Element has all of these (encrypted search only on Desktop for now) other than custom emoji.

Realising the irony of commenting on this given the sibling, but for the sake of accuracy: > with Matrix if you join a group chat hosted on another server, the entire history of the chat gets synced to your server. This is not true. By

how are you measuring perf? sync should be instant with sliding sync no matter how small the server is. are you talking about time to join big rooms? or resources used for participating in big rooms?

The reality is that worst case, it should feel like a laptop (username, password (unless using SSO) + recovery key) or a cryptocurrency wallet. With the v2 crypto, you typically don't have to remember anything - you just scan a QR code

Content only gets stored on your local server if a local user downloads it by viewing it before the message or the original content gets deleted. Separately, you can block abusive servers manually if needed (e.g. https://elemen

There are loads of SDKs which work well - as well as matrix-rust-sdk and matrix-js-sdk there's also excellent fully-featured indie libraries for Dart, Kotlin, C++, Go, Python (and many other others which don't have full parity). Y

yup. it's gutting that nobody has put $ behind the bar to support it. the entirety of Reddit chat is/was built on Dendrite, but they (and many others) chose not to put money behind it, unfortunately.

Unlike the Mozilla Foundation, if someone came to Element (or the Matrix Foundation) with a large bag of $ and asked for it to specifically fund P2P, then a conversation could definitely be had.
