Quite unfortunately for all of us condemned to use GNU/Linux: - GCC exists because Sun Studio compilers weren't free back then; - Apache is the next generation NCSA web server; - nginex is a re-invented Apache wheel. Do you have a

You seem to believe a shitty general key-value store with no SQL interface and no ACID guarantees qualifies as a distributed system, which is terribly shallow and misguided. I worked at a company circa 2005 where we had a platform as a serv

Sometimes it's worth fighting for to the end if that something you're fighting for is the right thing. And sometimes what happens is that the right thing does win out in the end, because it's better. You're asking Rembra

How long did it take you to install Triton? How many systems did you need to install Triton? How much memory did(do) the individual systems running Triton have? Which documentation did you follow to install Triton?

Write the drivers for your hardware and bootstrap it and it will be able to run. Wait a minute, wasn't that THE one and only answer for "my hardware doesn't run Linux!" from the early '90's all the way to 2005?

I have never in my life dealt with engineers so competent, professional and kind as the Sun Microsystems folks were. If they were technologically arrogant, they earned it: their inventions outlasted the company and live on in many product

This is patent nonsense. Sun lost because they were not price competitive. They thought they could command outrageous sums and 46% profit margins because they sold UltraSPARC-based servers and in the case of AMD / intel servers becau

You have five commands you need to know: zpool, zfs, imgadm, vmadm and man. The rest are the same applications as on GNU/Linux. I don't know of any other system where five commands suffice to run it.

I'm an old Solaris diehard who grew up on Solaris, which was my first UNIX®️. I'm also a Solaris 7 and a Solaris 10 certified system administrator. So for me SmartOS is a walk in the park to use. I even prefer SVR4 tools over GNU.
