Nobody's going to want to watch two hours of Snake Plissken searching around town for the President, only to find him sitting in a coffee shop eating avocado toast.

The humans are probably constrained by things like “reality” and “what their business has done in it” while GPT-4 could make up anything it wanted. You clearly know different founders than I do.

The GP is correct that Eddington's observations during the 1919 eclipse had to do with the deflection of starlight. General relativity predicted that starlight passing by the Sun would be deflected by a certain amount, and Eddington&#x

Yeah, I agree. I had a similar thought while writing the note. Some sort of ban is an entertaining thought, but hiding ownership is probably too easy for bans to make a meaningful difference.

Maybe we should propose legislation for an IP black hole list. If too many of a company's patents are invalidated, the company loses the ability to create or hold patents.

And yet, the US actually has allies. After all the crap the US has done, it still has allies. What? Why? Oh, because it's all about economics and power. Interesting thesis. At the same time, China has few allies. Does that mean China

Supporting the spy angle is the pretty obvious connectivity [...] but it also doesn't really make that much sense... surely a satellite does what this does but better? China has no shortage of high quality spy satellites. Balloons ar

Preventing the fraud described in your edit is what I'm asking about. I'm wondering if anyone has set up lists to help avoid surprise prices for sending messages via SMS service APIs, not from texting someone from a phone.

Does anyone run a blackhole list for these numbers and operators? (Or a historical phone number -> SMS price mapping?) In a sane system, no one should pay fees unless they're listed up front. Lacking that, a way to identify and avoi

The mass of atmosphere above Venus' one-bar pressure line is significant—it's similar to the atmosphere mass above sea level on Earth. Also, our atmosphere is much more important for protecting us from energetic particles than Ear

If you dropped a Cs-137 source of this scale way out in the middle of nowhere, far away from any road or crops, it might not be a big deal. The half life is only 30 years, and it could get buried under soil or in silt. However, losing it ne
