In my country builders didn't seriously start to consider "insulation" until the 1990s. Gas was cheap so nobody cared. Just turn up that dial! Modern houses and apartments are marvels of engineering though.

To be fair the US has vast and practically empty States in which you can do land based wind farms. Nobody cares what people in Nebraska think. Europe never had that luxury. Offshore wind is our only option.
