Its quite possible a kid leaving college not only fails at the startup, but fails at networking and building contacts, and also fails at learning anything at all.

Doesn't match up with my reality. I have an original G1 and am yet to run out of space. (I do delete applications that I don't use.) I was able to upgrade storage with 16gb microSD card for a very low price - the ability to do this is the

Intel just released new 32nm laptop CPUs with embedded GPU, so there'll probably be some new laptops with those chips.

Does it really come as news to anyone that if Intel wants to show their CPU in best light, they'll use their own compiler? Caveat emptor. The bulk of the x86 world uses Microsoft C++ or GCC - end of story.

Sensational headline: this article is only about the Intel C Compiler, which as far as I can see, is only used for benchmarketing and research purposes.

Exactly what I did to get my G1 here in Australia. Bought it outright for around $600 and then went on a $5/month plan with calls and data that are cheap enough ($15/GB). As far as I can see, buying outright always works out cheaper than a

Australia has big reserves of Uranium in the ground, but no nuclear power stations. Currently in Australia, it is politically impossible to even talk about the need to look at nuclear power for the future.

Yep, you can use the same certificate for email (IMAP, POP, TLS). Only works without warnings if your clients connect to the same hostname as the certificate is for (so I usually register something other than www.domain.com for the SSL sit

The problem for RethinkDB is that the firmware on Intel SSDs is advanced enough that it can speed up the normal, free MySQL engine (or postgresql, or oracle, ...) to almost the same sort of speeds. I am yet to see any evidence that RethinkD

Ahh, but see, what if we also took away the laws which governed who could run a Telco? For example, there's cases where cities have been forced to remove their free wifi networks. The technology exists now to make (slow, but) free wifi mesh

Traditionally, Intel and its partners have prevented the microserver market from taking off by limiting their Atom (and other low power) platforms to small amounts of RAM, usually 2-4GB. It sounds like they're finally willing to open this

The console, hilariously, looks like someone pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del and killed explorer.exe and just left a DOS box running. They've done a remarkable job trying to remove Windows from Windows Server, but (they admit) they are still not quite

Programmer here. Canvas tag excites me because for years the desktop programmer in me has wanted simple pixel addressing so that I could implement my own full-featured input/form controls, such as a grid control.

Really good point. I usually find it difficult because I don't even drink coffee and don't know how to make it. Yet culturally, I need to learn this in order to close some deals.

I calculated it out once... it turns out that planes consume a very similar amount of fuel per kilometre of travel to a person driving a car. However, the distances involved in flying around are much greater than most would attempt to drive

It was the exact reason I chose the G1, its generous 5 row qwerty keyboard makes daily use of SSH possible. You can type numbers and symbols in your password easily and quickly, and you get a full 80x25 display.

I can't bring myself to trust dedupe without verification after every hash match, so I plan to use it with a fast hash algorithm with full verify enabled. CRC32 is faster than ZFS's default of Fletcher2 and has less frequent collisions.
