The success page is about as uninspiring as it gets, and I can't see that people who actually solved this problem would stand out from all other applicants - it just funnels into the same application process. http://canyoucrackit.co.uk/soy

Sorry, I meant shop as short for workshop (ie. factory) It's probably not common now that I think of it.

You're right. But the problem is bigger than this. It's that the data centre eliminates a far greater number of jobs than it creates. Somewhere else in the US, there's a CD pressing factory which has just closed its doors with 150 jobs l

I absolutely agree. And it's all well and good talking about startups creating jobs, but really, what YC startups have created any meaningful number of jobs (aside from highly paid developers (Dropbox, Heroku) or sales staff (Airbnb)? I'm

I've just written an article (waiting for publication) lamenting the same thing from almost the exact opposite angle: Lots of jobs, no money. Here in Scotland, the government has just given £10.6m in 'support' to Amazon to encourage them t

I recognised his trademark passionate speech (02:43) about using technology to improve education. Laden with superlatives, it's just like every Apple product launch since the iPod. It's a great pity that education hasn't actually changed a

Not really. If the company is successful enough to be worth suing then brilliant. If the app does any harm to people (pretty unlikely I think) then a lawsuit will be the least of my worries.

Thanks, I appreciate the opportunity to engage. Apple, Intel and Dell are the misfits on that list, fine. Although by the same logic Microsoft (the equivalent of a webapp developer in its time) should pose no threat to IBM. For sure, they

I'm not seriously suggesting that two guys in a garage set out to build an index of web pages like Yahoo's - Yahoo has hundreds of people for god's sake. Seriously though, I do hear what you're saying. But I used the words chip and niche.

Trend did a pretty decent job with Housecall - I think that was mainly an ActiveX control? I don't know much about the AV industry, but their market (Windows PCs) is being challenged by mobile devices, tablets, *nix, Macs and browser-based

This article is a bit unquestioningly gushing - although I love the creativity and concept. For starters, I can't see how it has any lateral grip. Nor is it explained how it negates the need for a hub or bearings. I assume disk brakes ar
