If you're looking to use an e-ink tablet as an external monitor, you should also consider the larger BOOX e-ink tablets. The BOOX Max (starting from the last gen) and the new Max Lumi offer HDMI input for external monitor use.

IMHO using Emacs as your X window manager isn't particularly strange -- conceptually at least, it seems more natural than the Chromebook model, where people are essentially using a web browser as a window manager.

It's fairly likely that third parties will make some kind of somewhat-dockable display+battery. The choice of micro HDMI likely will help with some designs of that kind of accessory, given how large the strain reliefs of full-size HDMI

Raspberry Pi can run Squeak, which is a full-blown Smalltalk-80 environment, not unlike the one Alan Kay and Adele Goldberg taught kids to use in their Dynabook work. You could configure a Pi to boot directly into Squeak and it would be the

I'm in the same boat. I keep a virtual machine with an up-to-date Acrobat Pro license just for the OCR. It's not that the OCR is state-of-the-art any more. It's not as accurate as ABBYY in my experience. But it still generate

I agree with you. But technically Steve Jobs did work for HP once... he had a summer job at HP at age 12, which he landed after calling Bill Hewlett asking for some spare parts to build a frequency counter.

I wonder if there's an aspect of the experimental design that's left out of the linked article. For example, could the toys have been hidden behind some sort of shield, so that the baby couldn't see what color they were picki
