Oooh, I didn't think of the impact on DMA or 2-socket configurations, it's quite interesting indeed. Thanks !

I'd be curious to know more about the subtle issues (which I don't doubt there might be!). IMHO those results don't contradict the what I said. Of course if the workload entirely fits in the 64GB HBM, there's no point in

I'm not sure I understand the difference. Are we both talking about the "HBM Caching Mode" on this slide: https://www.servethehome.com/intel-xeon-max-9480-deep-dive-i... ?

If you buy 40GB A100s, maybe, but LLMs have pushed the price of the 80GB A100s in the same range (they're more expensive now than at launch(!)).

It's less expensive than the public price of the biggest Genoa-X with 1.15GB of L3 : 9684X at $14k+.

In caching mode, this is effectively a 64GB L4. Very impressive! (AMD's biggest offering Genoa-X has 1.15GB of L3)

Fascinating to see the dichotomy we have, even here on HN, with regards to subscription services. As a founder, they are great: recurring revenue ! But as a customer, of course they suck. I hope this inspires more companies to find a way to

Nice ! We were at a ridiculous situation where Google had released ChromeOS Flex, which would allow installing the latest OS on devices older that many Chromebooks that went out of support (and it was marketed as such). I joked that they sh

Another thing I forget that wasn't supported in wget (but worked in curl) last I checked: IPv6 link-local address scopes (interface names on linux).

LWN covered this in a now-freely available article: https://lwn.net/Articles/939842/ ; it has a bit more details and context.

GNU parallel is great for the kind of tasks highlighted in the post. Note that being written in Perl, it's slower than its simpler C counterpart moreutils parallel. And that in many uses cases xargs --max-procs=$(nproc) can replace it.

I have a gigabyte fiber connection @ home (Technically 10G EPON which has an effective top speed of 8Gb), so there's no way of knowing if it was a mistake or not. (you're probably downvoted because of the dismissive tone though)

async is water under the bridge since Vim 8, both Neovim and Vim have async apis. I foresee native LSP and everything-lua to be a bigger schism between Neovim and Vim.

FYI, there are already follow-up patches in 6.1.38, 6.3.12 and 6.4.2. This is often the case when bugfixes happen in a rush and with limited testing. So if you haven't started integrating, just make the jump to the latest version.

You don't need to ship your debug symbols to have stack traces. You just need to uniquely identify published binaries, and link them to stored debug symbols. See also breakpad, of which Chrome and Firefox use a variant of.
