I don’t think you can blame mask policies for police power trips. For one, police unions widely opposed mask/vaccine mandates. For two, ACAB; if it’s not masks, it will be something else.

These functions are essential to a hash tables (other related names are hash maps, hash sets). A hash table is a remarkable data structure that can be used to implement many algorithms simply and efficiently. This efficiency depends on bein

It’s infuriating. At Amazon my sent emails only survive for 30 days. I try to use Slack for everything because otherwise I lose it so fast.

Thanks for the warning. I didn’t know about this publication at all. Wikipedia doesn’t even have a page about it. This other site describes it as qanon nuttery. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Evie_Magazine

I’m surprised it’s available at all and kudos to them for making it so. I’m sure the folks who worked on this are hard working and dedicated and all of that, but the entire IEEE standards process seems like a backward, political, and entire

Throwing out the entire administration and then only replacing a small fraction of it would work even better!

Do you have some good ones that you would recommend? I often type copious notes and I think there may be some value in the very act of the typing, but if something works really well, maybe I can change my approach.

You joke(?) but I have had tons of success in asking people if they’d like to go on walking meetings with me, both virtual and in person. I have sometimes clocked 20k steps at work!

How much of the big expensive training jobs are CUDA specific? If it’s billions of dollars of compute, rewriting the software to use whatever hardware is cheapest may make sense?

It's frankly amazing that we still have welfare, social security, etc., at all. The pro-cruelty folks have been diligently working to discredit them since FDR enacted them during the great depression.

I don’t know how to judge the quality or utility of research like this, but I think I’m awfully glad it’s continuing. With Covid so widespread, it seems like we’re probably all going to be getting it many times over the coming years.

A code base doesn’t have tons of middlemen taking their cut. The current system is unsalvageable. Massive disruption is needed.

That’s really cool looking. Kudos to the R&D that went into this. I love that we get to see this idea without having to wait for products. I’m not sure I need a transparent laptop, but if this was cheap enough, it could make for neat mi

Perhaps there’s a difference between knowing and having internalized these concepts, versus having heard of them via a particular acronym, and being expected to remember that acronym and these specific names. “Liskov substitution principle”

I was thinking about this too, but I don’t know how widely they overlap? Like, if (say) 30% of male brains are at least 10% smaller than the average male brain, and 30% of female brains are at least 10% larger than the average female brain,

At some basic level it will always just be about profit. Their safety “just” needs to be good enough to not get shut down. Cynically, talk of drunk drivers etc., is marketing to sell the story to regulators and the public. More optimistical
