The future isn't evenly distributed. I recently discovered an actively developed software project that had a ton of helper functions based on the design of `gets` with the same vulnerability. Surprisingly not all C/C++ developers

By considering the facts of the matter, sure it's as you said. But if you ignore every detail then it does look like everyone is exactly as bad as each other and it's impossible to say anything is good or bad.

This seems pretty similar to Cloudflare Workflows ( https://developers.cloudflare.com/workflows/ ), but with code-rewriting to use syntax magic (functions annotated with "use workflow" and "use step")

Hasn't he been saying that OpenAI is going to shut down every year for the last few years now? And that models are never going to get better than they were in 2022? I think he's pretty clearly a grifter chasing an audience that wa

It's also important because sometimes you want a WebAssembly instance to hold a reference to a GC object from Javascript, such as a DOM object, or be able to return a similar GC object back to Javascript or to another separate WebAssem

It's a strategy that's worked out very well. Standards groups and browsers prioritize backwards compatibility very highly. It's hard to remember any real compatibility breakages in standardized HTML/CSS/JS features

If you had the dependency installed before this attack, then you would still be pinned to an old safe version.

The browsers and standards groups do prioritize backwards compatibility and have done a very good job at it. The only real web compatibility breakages I know of have to do with pre-standardized features or third-party plugins like Flash.

React supports rendering to HTML ahead of time (SSR) which doesn't need any client-side javascript, and this is a prominent feature of most frameworks using React. This feature of React was one of its major innovations over many other

Why would Google want to bother? Who actually uses XSLT today for making webpages? Why should browsers spend effort on supporting XML+XSLT-based pages in addition to HTML+CSS-based pages?

Uh can't XML have whitespace throughout it just as much as JSON? They seem pretty similar in this respect. <foo bar="x" baz = "y" />

Damn I misremembered, I've only tried it on Trezor, not Ledger. What I do know is I've successfully used my Trezor for signing in to Google and several other sites through one or both of Chrome or Firefox.

Rust doesn't protect you much further than most typed memory-safe languages do; it won't stop an LLM from writing code to erase your filesystem or from importing a library that sounds useful but is full of malware.

I think Rust is a bad example, but I think the general idea that the design of a programming language can help with the weaknesses of LLMs makes sense. Languages with easy sandboxing (like Deno where workers can be instantiated with their o

A lot of people don't realize NodeJS was made because the creator wanted to make a runtime dedicated to asynchronous IO, didn't want to use a language with a pre-existing standard library and ecosystem built around synchronous IO,
