How many other 'mathy' people with aphantasia have trouble 'thinking like a cartoonist'? (And how many people with aphantasia are naturally 'mathy'?) Read Blake Ross' post for a better sense of why this me

Web 3 sounds to me like people who came to the web in the Facebook era, and wish they could have what we had in the good old days. Who can blame them? The problem is that the solution to centralization is to stop centralizing, which the new

As a former chef with 33 restaurants of experience and a lifelong passion for science, I can say that if you have an interest in "the science and lore of the kitchen" (subtitle), you must own McGee's On Food and Cooking.

Correct, but it wasn't always like that. I suspect many of us were raised in a time when K-12 was also structured in liberal arts, and was relatively decent, compared to today's standards. Am I alone in this, or are my suspicions

My elementary school principal would let me skip class and hang out in the closet of his office where he had a Trash-80. My older brother would never let me touch his Apple][, so I loved that closet, and that computer. My career began there

My sense is that a lot of people who are zealotic about "web3" are people who never got to experience pre-FB, and want to do something about it. I wish them all the best, but I'm not optimistic yet.

I know many will disagree, but for me, the reason this place is so rad is that it doesn't aspire to be an "online community". By not striving, it achieves it. The interface plays a major role. Most are turned away by how 1999

I studied some philosophy as an undergraduate. My understanding is this: Ethical theory tries to answer the question, 'what should we do?' (e.g. death penalty or not?) Moral theory tries to answer the question, 'why should w

I have been using IRC as a means to stay in touch with the people I actually care about since the 90's, and it hasn't let me down yet. Many of my friends are in their 20s, and only a few are developers.

The Trash-80 was the first computer I could use alone - my older brother wouldn't let me touch his Apple ][. It was 1982 and 1983, and the principal of my elementary school had one in his office. He let me skip some of my 1st and 2nd
