I think it is a wrong take of what he said. There are many cases when you can say no to small tasks or projects if you can prove they are low value and there are better items on the list. I do that all the time and none of my managers had a

You can self host, but in order to be reachable you need to be discoverable. If the discovery is based on a mechanism that is controlled by someone else that can become an evil party, self-hosting in isolation is not too useful.

I run a NAS, in various forms, for almost 20 years. The lifetime is quite longer, I still have ~ 10 year old drives in the backup NAS built on a Ryzen 1600 (8 years) and the average power supply works for me 10-12 years. The primary NAS is

Check the Philips Ultinon H7 led bulbs reviews on Amanzon.de. There are dozens on verified reviews complaining that they received halogen (cheap) bulbs in the led bulb packaging, suggesting some internal job at Amazon warehouse.

No, they need a different landing gear to make room for bigger engines. Larger diameter engines are needed for better fuel efficiency. Fly by wire is nice, but fuel economy is more important.

I like Yamaha, I have an older one in my living room, but for the $550 (local price) I am not extatic of what it offers. The digital part is a joke, it has a DAC in it but I cannot use a laptop as a digital source over USB, it has an Ethern

I think I was one of the people desiring a mid range setup, but I found it very hard to justify when the "good enough" is 10-20 times cheaper. Based on perceived value, the $2000 mid range price looks 2-4 times too big for me and

I agree this does not make sense for you and me, but it makes sense for the corpo bean counters that don't understand how this works and they were told AI makes people better, so they need less people and less skilled people. It is not

No, it was supposed to get rid of the seniors because they cost more and replace them with cheap juniors + AI. If you need some humans and you are a corpo bean counter, the cheaper the body the better.

If a junior is not willing to learn and grow, there is no future for that person in the organization. "Forever junior" is not a valid job title. Better not hire someone that is not good enough than having to deal with the conseque

I would spend time mentoring a junior, but I don't have one so I work with AI. It was the company's decision, but when they asked me "who can continue developing and supporting system X" the answer is "the nobody th

As someone that I read Tom's since it was ran by Thomas, I found the quality of the articles a lot lower than almost 30 years ago. I don't remember when I stopped checking it daily, but I guess it is over 15 years ago. Maybe the q

All the brand new vaccines with no sufficient testing can be considered unsafe. I like vaccines in general (I am European, we have lots of free and mandatory vaccines as kids), but I don't like to be a test subject for brand new ones.

This makes sense if the previous CEO is a regular "Joe the CEO". If that previous CEO had a very rare talent of designing or building great products, losing it is a concern.

I used a couple of Plantronics 5200 until they died (~ 4-5 years each) and they were excellent for a wireless headset. Pods are indeed dubious.

If you import cheap labor, you hit your economy by lowering the wages in that sector. When you have immigration, there are a few very top talents and a lot of average people coming, the average ones are not a net benefit in most cases. In U

I work (in Europe) for an American company. All the people in IT we hire in USA are foreigners, they are cheaper. You cannot say it is discrimination on wages because everyone is paid low. The visa system allows the company to pay low wages
