A big part of that is true. It's mostly about Git. But it is also about GitHub, GitBook integrates well with GitHub repos, it links up your book to the issue tracker, watchers & stars as well. Plus it's easy to host the HTML o

It's primarily targeted programmers. Because they are already familiar with Git/GitHub & Markdown and we have some "unique" features for programming tutorials/courses, such as interactive tutorials. But you'

Here's a cool book using GitBook : http://samypesse.github.io/How-to-Make-a-Computer-Operating-... It's written by GitBook's co-author and teaches the basics of writing an OS in C++.

The global install is only for when you're running it locally on your machine (it isn't fully packaged for the desktop yet, but will be soon). On our cloud service ( https://www.codebox.io ) we do run each app in a seper

Codebox will soon be distributed as a Desktop app as well (it can run perfectly well on Desktop right now but is not packaged). That's a nice idea, and Codebox could do that, Codebox.io actually users Docker behind the scenes by the wa

Codebox & Cloud9 share some similarities (IDE's built with web technologies). However we have a big emphasis on modularity, ease of use. We have a Desktop app (linux/mac) coming in the pipes. Our cloud version has offline supp
