I don't get it. A 20yo panel doesn't suddenly stop making power. It's just making less power. No need to throw it away when the 20y mark hits.

If by "advanced in-database processing" you mean stuff like PostGIS, then yes PostgreSQL is the right approach. But for most people building web-apps to scale, or established businesses who want to pick a solution and stick to it

Algorithms without computers (in the "plastic box with CPU+memory" sense) are definitely a thing. Computers in the end, as we experience them everyday, are just one particularly manufacturable manifestation of Turing machines. A b

My experience is that MySQL scales as high as you need it when coupled with Vitess, because most data schemas can be sharded, and you can scale each shard vertically enough for all the workloads I've seen.

I'm curious what your environment is like, because my experience has been the opposite. No one that I know would recommend a nosql database in the vast majority of cases. Especially since there's great offerings out there nowadays

One of the first quotes of this article points to Dave Troy's "research" which as far as I can tell is lizard-theory without the lizards. A catchy tweet concludes it in https://twitter.com/davetroy/status

It's not unreasonable to expect a stock to go to zero. It's a bit unreasonable for cash held in a checking/savings account to go to zero.

My gas furnace sits next to my gas water heater. I want a central air heat pump that dumps the heat into my water heater when I'm cooling the house.

Why isn't it. Pragmatically it's pretty silly to insure the first 250k and then expect people to go through the trouble of spreading their cash over a multitude of accounts. Punishing people for not having accounted for black swan

This is all dramatic and very tragic, but the numbers don't make sense. It's not something where passion should win over reason. Current and future generations will be screwed if this pension system isn't reformed. If anythin

A battery would help here to handle the surge. At least that's how I've got it setup on my boat, where my inverters supplement the limited 30A "service" by pulling from the battery when the load goes above 30A.
