Regarding his underplaying of fuel mass, check out the rocket equation to get an idea of how hard it is to achieve the delta-v required for various maneuvers (e.g. suborbital, orbital, escape): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsiolkovsky_rock

Perhaps they've sussed out something about what we should expect to see in extraterrestrial life at the molecular (e.g. DNA) level. The biggest clue is the list of participants. One of them specializes in research on non-standard biology. I

I would just say, "The action scene was a bit over the top." If the person hears that and thinks I didn't like the movie, that's their mistake. Your first phrase still leaves the door open for you not liking the movie and it adds no clarify

A few weeks ago I spent a few hours volunteering next to him at the Planetary Society's booth at the National Science & Engineering Fair. He's doing a great service for the Society by drawing big crowds. I must say, though, that it look

Well, the Amazon Senior VP of International Retail said this was the case in his talk for the Stanford Entrepreneurial Thought Leadership series. So, seems there's some dispute within the company. But I suppose I should take Werner's word f

It's even more impressive when you know Amazon started AWS to take advantage of excess capacity they had during the off-season when they weren't dealing with the crush of holiday orders.

I've read some of Mandelbrot's works on finance and I would never put him in the same category as the "technicians". It's hocus pocus mumbo jumbo that I don't think he would subscribe to (e.g. Elliot Wave's "5 up, 3 down" principle).

The first program written in C that I saw that did anything interesting was a Mandelbrot set generator. It's what hooked me on programming, I think.

His 'Fractals and Scaling In Finance' helped me wrap my brain around power laws. Perhaps if certain folks had read it when it was first published (1997), we would have had less financial turmoil these past few years.
