Adding to other snarky comments about The Economist here, if it is published in The Economist it probably is the crowded view. I read the magazine for years and I'm not sure if I gained much unique insight about anything. Certainly Fac

Agree with the other comment, all of the UIs are pretty difficult. Some things are simple once you know exactly what to click on and in what order, but if you don't it can just be brutal. Amazon seems pretty static, but if my experienc

It definitely could be a problem for Uber’s IPO story. I’m sure Waymo’s progress was foreseen. If driving becomes a commodity, the bigger long term problem is the mobile phone being the gateway to calling a ride. The users may just use Goog

One thing that could be done is for the aggregators to require a video publisher to post a bond. This could apply not just for the EU copyright rules, but for any other weird country specific laws. If the video publisher posts something tha

Well at least that’s what companies that are losing lots of money like to tell their investors. I’ve heard it many times and can’t think of any definite examples.

Politically and regulatorily it is not a good sign when both sides of the political spectrum are peddling the story that your company is a bad actor. The irony is significant that while being hated and vilinized by the left, America’s adtec

Well I’m not sure about all of that stuff, but Facebook is definitely going to be able to monetize the ad inventory a lot better than Match Group. Dating app behavior doesn’t look much different to me than people obsessively viewing a Faceb

If you evaluate companies by free cash flow, the numbers look even worse. Even if a company is not engaging in accounting tricks that make themselves look very profitable, what the paper margins say usually do not reflect the real cash rema

Deflation is the critical component of human progress. Economic cycles and interest rates can make it difficult to see the long term, underlying trends. This becomes very destructive when governments pursue policies which pretend otherwise.

When you see a storefront psychic, which appears to have no customers, in a place where it would seem the rent wouldn't support a handful of $20 readings a day, there is a reason why. People don't understand how widespread psychic

You are right about the prices. Expecting a $60 AAA console game for $5 is not going to happen. Free to play AAA games where you end up spending $1000 to do everything means players end up hating the game and paying for fewer games. The alt

Someone needs to take a page from Facebook's Snapchat playbook: copy it. A bunch of writing is hot air. A working product that users open and immediately understand is what gets users.

It makes sense with pump and dump schemes, but less so, to me, for investments you need to hold on to for a long time. I think about Warren Buffet's IBM investment. Anyone who talked to IBM engineers or perhaps read Robert Cringely

I would add, if you remain in your home country, and you aren’t that confident in that countries’ future, keep your extra earnings in foreign currency and assets. That way, you can hedge against getting screwed in the event of a currency cr

By passing out a bunch of degrees to unqualified students a school is essentially printing a currency that will eventually be recognized as worthless. One could see this as a tragedy of the commons for everyone but the highest tier schools.
