I have to disagree. Having one mini cinder block = 5 properly scaled cinder blocks (approximately) is close enough. You just use 1-3 instead of 5-15 to build the appropriately sized walls.

My list is similar but I do a UFW setup and move SSH to a non-standard port that is easy to remember (i.e. 12345) to reduce noise in my log files. Is there any particular reason you left firewall setup off?

I think you are overdoing it simply because per-hour estimates are extremely time consuming to produce and borders on micromanagement. Realistically, tasks should be grouped into roughly day-sized estimates for any long project with an equa

Its probably custom to be 100% honest. The only host I know offering that stuff out of the box using open source is OVH using OpenStack.

I'm in a similar basket with my non-work projects and to be honest, most of what Linode is missing is available if you use multiple providers. For instance, I use OVH object storage in conjunction with an image hosting site on Linode.

"Short term basis" being less than 6 months / 1000 hours? Yes, you will pay a premium. If you can stretch it to 1k hours or 6 months, you will be able to get cheaper prices. I doubt you'd be paying over $200/hr.

Its a question of traffic, dns health checks, etc. as much as # of domains. If you are using it to "just" host a dumb domain record, you can get that for free at your registrar or with Cloudflare.

It is cheaper for you and the OP. It isn't cheaper "with a whole bunch of domains". Route53 would cost me ~$100/month vs. ~$21/month for my own setup.
