Last big e-commerce outage I can think of was Prime day years ago when Sable browned out. But that was non-AWS infrastructure. There was also the infamous s3 fat-finger; but I can’t think of a holiday shopping and delivery day with a massiv

If this outage isn’t the catalyst to get the Amazon side of the house to finally move out of US-east, I don’t know what will be. Or at least be multi-region. Although the cost to make all of Amazon commerce, logistics, and digital truly mul

I dislike crypto and have argued against it many times just on this site. But other than financial audit DBs, I haven’t seen many use cases for a cryptographic ledger db. AWS’s own ledger DB, QLDB, was discussed in the context of blockchain

Most of the article is about semi-lattices and posets which are often most usefully described in a categorical framework. Fibonacci sequence is just a toy example to demonstrate the general concept. I have a ton of graduate level math books

It’s based on the nature of the Senate and Republican gerrymandering of the house. A minority of extreme views from rural areas control the politics of America. A poll of “all Americans” is useless when the Senate exists.

All of the known STDs at the time we’re bacterial and cured with antibiotics. Syphilis was curable for decades. AIDS scared the shit out of everyone because science didn’t know what was going on. Fauci is a damn hero.

That would not work in actuality since a large portion of American politics is based on an extreme and literal interpretation of the Bible that is inconsistent with logic.

I’m very worried about the US turning into a one-party theocracy. The actual institutional norms have been violated and the path has been laid. A very large portion of the country supports an authoritarian Christian theocracy as the future

My annual max out of pocket cost for healthcare is $5,000. Once I pay the $5k, everything else for free for the rest of the year. How is that worth a $100-200K salary difference?
