Gates was an exceptionally good problem solver. The trouble with great problem solvers is that they assume everyone else is also great at solving problems, and thus understand that if they are causing trouble for other people that those oth

To be fair, years ago Rails was what all the "bootcamp" programmer mills were pushing. Only you have the full context, but absent of that it is likely that Rails was truly found to be associated with poor applicants. Not because o

> Rails can't be rewritten in C It could if you added message passing to C. Which we have, and DHH admits that Rails took directly from that. Rails is (loosely) a rewrite of what was originally written in C [with extensions].

The only other difference mentioned is in implementation, but concepts are not defined by implementation. Obviously you could build a C compiler with neural nets. That wouldn't somehow magically turn everything into something completel

I also couldn't afford to rent one. I can afford to rent fractional use of one, but by that token I could also afford to buy a very small fraction of one too.

Bit too soon to tell, no? Claude Code wasn't released until the latter half of Q2, offering little time for it to show up in those figures, and Q3 data is only preliminary right now. Moreover, it seems to be the pairing with Opus 4.5 t

It's different in some ways (such is evolution), but is not a distinction that matters. Kind of like the difference between imperative and declarative programming. Different language models, but all the same at the end of the day.

The important difference is the reduction in boilerplate, which allows programs to be written with (often) significantly less code. Hence the time savings (and fun) spoken of in the original article. This isn't really a new phenomeno

Equally a good use for a legacy compiler that compiles a legacy language. Granted, you are going to have to write a lot more boilerplate to see it function (that being the difference, after all), but the outcome will be the same either way.

The only difference is that newer languages have figured out how to remove a lot of the boilerplate.

If you can afford it, carry on! But your other comments suggest otherwise. Hypothetically being able to afford something if things were hypothetically different is not an indicator of what is affordable in reality.
