WINE doesn’t work well with DAWs. Most DAWs barely work on the platforms they support. I can’t see Linux as being a viable market since most Linux users except software to generally be free. Vs OSX which lets you enter a credit card number

Very neat. All I want for Christmas is Logic on Linux. But then you’d still need a Mac to legally download it from the App Store and DRM checks would probably only work on Macs

I don’t give a crap about passion, I need to pay rent. Hypothetically if Google starts hiring paint dry watchers I’d do it for 200k a year

Ok. You have 2 options. Stop making so many harmful assumptions about your partners child. Theirs a good chance he’s just weird and he’ll grow out of it, but you’re not exactly helping here. Hell, to be honest I was weird as shit as a kid u

That’s where we’re at. I’d just prefer to grant every worker the dignity of permanent residency. The bizarre dystopian system we have now lets your employer get you deported. Not just farm workers, a lot of food processing plants are manned

Not everyone should be a step parent. GP, you don’t have to do it. I’d much rather be alone forever than treat another human being as a mere obstacle to my happiness.

H1Bs create new companies here, we continue to attract the smartest people here. However each company would have to weigh the risks of bringing someone to the US and they then walking away. We could even change it so instead of a 100k fee,

I’d only say change the system to provide a pathway to residency. If you’re willing to work 12 hour days to ensure my fat American born self keeps eating , you deserve a spot here. One of my former partners was making around 200k. Her grand

That’s the point. The current people in power don’t want immigrants because the vast majority of immigrants are non white. The tall blond nordics they really want have no real motivation to deal with this bizarre BS as they usually already

I’m very pro immigration, but “Americans are lazy and stupid , thus unfit for hiring” isn’t a winning argument. Tons of Americans are out of work. I’ve personally seen my wages drop by at least 20$ an hour as well as the work being less sta

To be fair, I suspect most of the core team is effectively rich after an acqu-hire. If I had 5 million I’m going to retire and never code for money again. I do want to make small video games though, make some music. Pay for a friend’s kids

Alright. Be single. Get sick. Get fired. Medical bills will ruin you instead. America has an accelerated path to homelessness most civilized countries lack.

For everyone blaming homeless people, I had a highly educated white professor who explained how he became homeless for a bit. Divorce. The wife can just say she doesn’t feel comfortable with you in the house. Now you can’t find another plac

Lower cost of living country, he has an IT job that pays half that. Honestly I’d rather train up a smart but humble rookie over someone who’s going to lecture me on how Rust is the best language over and over again.

I’m on an extended vacation right now. Realistically I’ll take 4 to 8 weeks off while looking for work back in the US. I had a revelation a few years back. Taking real vacations is absolutely necessary. If I can work 12 months at 70 to 80$

Vendor lock in is a hell of a drug. Would you want to go and spend billions to migrate off Microsoft/Oracle when you could just not and get to the next quarter.

I still think the solution would be for Amazon to release the EBook of any rare book they scan and destroy. Then setup a fund to compensate copyright holders. I guess publishers do have a right to pull certain works from print though.

Microsoft is very much not FAANG. They’ve been trying to eliminate dedicated QA for years and underpay contractors. Microsoft can afford to do a lot of things, but why when you can squeeze a bit more profit out.

Microsoft is really really bad at marketing and making products consumers actually want. I really think they only know how to sell Azure. No reason Microsoft couldn’t have shipped a better version of Cursor considering they wrote the IDE cu

They also have a much better safety net. Healthcare not being tied to employment is already massive. I think a flat tax + UBI is the only way to go. The dream of AI should be a society where maybe 10% of people have to work. The nightmare i

It's probably not the best for anything in particular. It's the fastest way to build something if you're not a big html person. I've never particularly been good at hmtl tbh. The older I get, the more I'm concerned

No one else is going to basically give everyone free git hosting with such generosity as Microsoft. I think LMMs have made it impossible for unlimited free repos for everyone to work.

A right to unlock would mean that you get full access to your own hardware. No real reason to buy a Sony system anyway, PC will always win in the long run.

Because that's the only way Sony doesn't have a monopoly on what software you can run on your hardware. PC gaming lets me shop from Steam, GOG, etc. I can't do any of that on a closed system.
