>So strange given how most COVID threads on this site go. How do they usually go? Personally, I hesitate to give an opinion because I need to preserve every little bit of karma that I get (at least till I have enough to throw away).

Take the job and hope to make changes from the inside? Maybe learn enough about the company to become a whistleblower? Avoid the dilemma or try to make a difference? Tough choice.

Overzealous copyright protection is what you might call a "first-world problem". Every time a new technology comes along, the copyright defenders get nervous. These people believe that society owes them and owes their ancestors a

How did you find my post? Are you a moderator? The post was visible to me but it didn't show up on the news feed. Ask HN is what I intended. I wanted to gauge the level of interest before jumping to the full reveal. I'm still not

I've never understood why anyone would take a flu shot. What is so bad about catching a flu? Yeah, yeah, you've probably got a horror story to tell about the last time you caught the flu. Poor you. I haven't taken a shot for

The Ladybird browser looks promising. Web pages have become unnecessarily complex, along with CSS and Javascript. This is the result of design by committee. Unfortunately, we're stuck with it. We do need some new competition in the web

AI can handle the planning if precedents exist for what you need done. Since AI cannot think, it cannot do anything original though it can create Frankensteins from disparate pieces ("art"). You will need to do some thinking yours

I made an account over a month ago and started posting many comments to the point that HN ordered me to slow down. I stopped commenting for a while and then tried to make an original post but it wouldn't go through, meaning that my pos

The biggest problem with ipv6 right now is that the DNS record system needs to be updated to support both simultaneously. Right now, it is necessary to perform the AAAA lookup alongside the A lookup which doubles the workload on the DNS. Al

I had a GitHub repo taken down due to a DMCA notice. What these buggers do is brute search GitHub to find suspicious links and perhaps questionable images. They may not even look at the repo at all and they definitely won't run the sof

Yeah, I noticed that. You're allowed only so much time and then it cuts you off. I don't see the justification for that since searching can't be too hard on bandwidth. Could be an attempt to lock us in or maybe they're p

Everybody wants to play the AI chat game. Too much too fast. I'm already bored of hearing about it. Let me know when these things stop hallucinating to the point that you can't believe a damn word they say.

You should consider paying your ethical hacker enough money to get him off his diet of Boston Creams and Mountain Dew. That might be enough to get him to love you instead of hating you enough to sell the exploits on the black market instead

Renting out bandwidth to the "competition" is not uncommon. It's not really competition when you're making money. >this shouldn't even be possible since CORS should stop it, right...? CORS is meaningless outside

I don't like that the term "hacking" has become so tightly associated with the act of system penetration. Breaking passwords and finding weaknesses in a network seems like exciting stuff when it is glamourized by Hollywood bu

It's not as extensive as you're suggesting. HTTP parsing is handled by Node.js and it merely connects to an existing Tor server running in the background. The thing is, if I use any kind of third-party software then I end up with

You could try mail.com or gmx.com. Same software on both. mail.com is a bit heavy with the adware. gmx.com has more free options (like mail forwarding). Dunno about support. I'm not recommending, just mentioning.

I put up my own server on Vercel. The site can install your project directly from your GitHub repository. Pretty nifty. All you need is a JSON file on GitHub to configure the installation. My project is just a simple proxy server: https:&#

Oh wait. I'm working on a project right now. Never mind the PDF-to-braille thingy. How about a proxy server with HTTP, HTTPS, Socks5 and websocket? Not complex enough? How about routing to Tor and I2P? DNS and DNS-over-HTTPS? It's

Manual shift has been on the decline for years and now the auto makers are feeling nostalgic about it? Something tells me that they really really don't want to be building EVs but the government is forcing them to. Where would Mad Max
