I guess it depends what you consider winning. The west won both WWI and WWII, but only the latter resulted in a long term peace with Germany.

I am talking about a situation where a developer is unable to repay their debts due to an unsuccessful project. The assets may still have some value, but probably far less than the debt. And any buyer would have to believe that they can s

If the project is successful then it makes money and doesn't have to be sold. If it doesn't make money then there is no reason to buy it. The business model is locked in regardless of who owns it on paper.

And you don't even get an asset you can sell. You own an expensive pile that needs nuclear engineers to dismantle.

Yes I agree that it makes sense for energy generation to be in public ownership. Although they still have to make a business case that it will actually deliver rewards. And be mindful of the costs associated with a dangerous liability. A

In large energy projects the bank or funder tends to take all the risk. If the project doesn't make enough energy the developer will go out of business and the bank will be left with an underperforming asset. And possibly a liability

A lot of British airports emerged out of WWII air bases. I am not sure how they were chosen exactly. But they probably wanted places that were flat, dry and grassy with lots of space. They could have considered proximity to places that n

That is often the experience already when using a big hub airport. Because by their very nature they draw people in from across a region. And that naturally leeds to congestion and inconvenience. Rail is a help but may not be fast if you

The financial side is not just about energy output alone but includes other constraints and opportunities. A developer may get access to cheaper land and untapped wind resource or grid connection opportunities. A single project like that

Landing strip construction could work well as part of overhead line construction. You have an existing design that favours long straight lines and a need to build a haul road. Although the scenario where this was actually useful might be

I agree with the worry about surveillance. But isn't this really a continuation of how car makers treat their customers and the public generally. Cars companies comprimise privacy in the same way that they willingly comprimise safety,

Google maps is not a good comparison as it is so empty. A nautical chart is designed to show much more information all at once.

I think the company culture itself should require approval. Producing safe planes or achieving a type rating is not sufficient evidence of that. A pilot can land perfectly a hundred times and still be dangerous if they are not behaving pro

The spiral of badness seems to be present in so many design decisions. Chunky front ends so you can't see the road in front. Worse aerodynamics and fuel economy. Small cars that are difficult with babies. Massive vehicles that need

There is a difference in that people intuitively know that entering passwords gives access. Also, it may be different legally as the user could reasonably be expected to know that they are not supposed to access something.

It is funny how unusual this point of view is nowadays. I guess a fundamental purpose of money is to decouple things from social obligation. You pay for something and you don't have to do anything more than that. But if that breaks d
