You have to weigh up the value of such data against the privacy wishes of all podcast listeners. It is not clear to me at all how knowing the gender of your audience could improve the product you’re producing.

The RSS feed would need links to the audio files - I suspect that Spotify only allows access to those through its app much as YouTube does through its app/website (this is what stops YouTube video podcast feeds from becoming a thing)

They’re all just marketing terms and have no technical meaning. The author just wants the marketing terminology to better reflect the technical reality of all applications using the same technologies at any given time.
