But the same is true of any other language. Given a complex piece of C++, no amount of IDE features is going to help anyone understand it, nor know what is implications could be in a system (without looking at the entire source code to see

Very interesting. This is impossible in C++03; this must be related to the very useful changes in aggregate initialisation for C++11 (particularly useful as there's one great syntax for that and uniform initialisation).

But there's no COM on Linux. How can I magically port my software across if I do not have access to all the wonders of COM, eg. MS XML and have to rewrite my software from scratch? At least with Microsoft you have support for APIs for

The argument appears to be about whether to block adverts and whether this is ethical or not. The real reason for adverts is to pay for the site and its content. I think the real argument should be about how we pay for content on a site and

I never understand this. Why would a machine get painfully slow after a few years of use? Do you install rubbish on it? Do you not take care to ensure that everything in your process task list makes sense? Do you look to see what's gob

That's a very good point to make. The "buy a machine with Linux on it" option didn't exist yesteryear when I was using it. Very thoughtful point.

NTFS supports compression, hard links, streams, transactions, quotas, and has a master file table (or multiples of them) which enables tools such as Voidtool's Everything utility to find files in nanoseconds. APFS does not support any

Still running a 2012 non-retina MacBook Pro. I shoved 16GB RAM in as soon as I bought it (it officially only supports 8GB). But it was a real dog with a hard disk. Shoved in a 1TB SSD and all is good (and that's a SATA3 not NVME). Shou

You forget: Windows has NTFS which is still lightyears ahead of Apple's upcoming APFS, let alone HFS+ (how on earth is it still in use??) And I say this as Mac user.

Although Apple have been known to change things for change-sake, I find it is possible to take a Mac running Mac OS 10.2 and 10.12 and you will find your way around with ease. Of course, under the hood they've rewritten everything like

I'll be holding onto my MBP-Non retina from 2012 for as long as I can! Best look for a cheese-grater Mac as a workhouse. Xeons may be old but not to be sniffed at.
