I had a google interview about a year ago. The thing I found strangest is that some interviewers would walk in the room and throw up a coding exercise without any introduction at all. They literally wouldn't give their names and what

I can't believe they still use stack ranking. I've come into contact with over 50 Microsoft people through my job and each one has been very high caliber and hard working. Granted, it's a very biased sample, but these are n

Do you have any advice for avoiding singletons? Consider I have a singleton that does Geographical lookups and requires a substantial amount of time to load/process data mapping. This data never changes after the initial load. Would

Ok, thanks for the correction. I was not aware of the storied history of plural they. I rarely, if ever, see this pattern in professionally edited writing, though. Is it just me?

'their' is plural and therefor would be grammatically incorrect

If you can 'cut out the bottom 50%' reliably, I think a lot of VCs would want to hire you.

When I learned python I was surprised by the absence of a length() member on collections. But, apparently this was far from an accident. http://effbot.org/pyfaq/why-does-python-use-methods-for-some...

People get robbed in all of those places, especially walking home from BART. All the time. Also, have you not seen home prices in Rockridge and Piedmont? No deals to be had.

The nice parts of LA are just as expensive as SV (e.g. $1mm Santa Monica cottages) and transportation is equally bad.

I'm actually trying to learn java from a C# background. Two questions that immediately jumped out at me: - Do experienced java programming concatenate a bunch of strings together, or is there a format method? -Is anyone actually using

Funny. Signing a big contract with New Relic is one of the best things my company has done in the last few years. With very little work, our application monitoring got about 100 times better. Worth every penny.

It depends on the industry. There is no risk if I try out a new search engine as a consumer. But, if I'm building a phone application, there's a huge risk if I build it on a weak platform.

Strong competition is a barrier to entry. If I'm an enterprise, I'll go with Twilio over some 2 week old startup because of its proven track record and the likelihood of being around in a year.

An IPO creates a liquid market for existing shareholders (management, private equity) to cash out. Seriously. There are cheaper forms of financing if all they wanted was to expand operations.

Your point is well taken. But, from a user perspective, it's simply unsolicited change with non-obvious benefit.

I'm sure win8 is great on a tablet, when you're expecting a tablet experience. But for people who instinctively upgrade their PC every few years, a new UI is just annoying.

I'm not by any means a MS Hater but here's my vent: Windows 8 is represents the worst of Microsoft - new products/features for the sake of "new". Every tech enthusiast relative I have has been very excited to get a win 8 computer and then
