lobste.rs attempts to do this by somewhat requiring people to have connections before they can register. Even if that's not your long term goal, it might be a good place to start to avoid broken windows.

An interesting twist would be to allow for an opt-in that collects guesses and uses that to source ranking.

When was the last time that the United States had a deflationary period during good market conditions? This might be a pretty new condition for some people.

As other people have pointed out, rather than C being more unlike assembly, processors are more unlike assembly. As such, the abstractions of C map pretty well to a theoretical assembly, even if optimization changes that precise mapping. A

I just use APL for learning, but Dyalog APL provides hooks, forks, and various other operators (like @) for supporting functional programming. Their RIDE effort supports a linux IDE, but not an Android one AFAIK. I personally find the APL n

My bias shows here, but what's your alternative to NFS from *nix? We used AFS at school. I suppose you could keep your data locally and be responsible for your own backups / use version control as backups.

Those languages do indeed have a lot to offer for helping ensure safety. I attempted to describe 'situated programs' which Rich developed Clojure to solve. I've struggled to use Haskell in these kinds of environments maybe b

An overview of a problem that I run into is the need to pair some input, validate that input, query the system based on the input, expose the intermediate stages for inspection and modification by arbitrary consumers, conditionally modify t

I find that giving names to things is a way to manage complexity and relationships which scales to far more complicated systems than visual representations that I'm familiar with. Maybe the inability of a visual representation to cope

I wonder if high resolution timers were privileged, we could get by with lower resolution timers. I'm not sure any timing attacks would work with second or even millisecond resolution timers. I don't see handling this at the progr

I imagine there are probably IDEs out there with low-friction searching, highlighting, diffing, replacing, block operations, and convenient macros, but I never ran into those features in the IDEs that I've used. I also expect there are

A different perspective: shelter makes me think homeless shelter, so a place for code on the streets without a home. Perhaps fitting, but heavy with additional meaning.

I glanced through the paper and didn't see a comparison to TinyLfu. Unfortunately, it seems to be a misleading name which would make one think it was simply an LFU algorithm. The description in caffeine seems to indicate that it's

In ACM ICPC, we could bring printouts of library code and manually transcribe them into the computer. IIRC, FFT was apart of our team's library code, but you wouldn't use GMP since it would require too much typing.

I've found that the Rust code that I've written is stylistically more similar to Haskell. However, while references in Rust are a distinct concept from references in C++, they both have a distinction between a pointer to an object

I've been translating idioms across languages. I've been expanding my vocabulary from APL, exploring meta-programming in Racket, and structuring programs in Rust. APL presents a distilled description of algorithms with a larger vo
