It would be a huge bait and switch, but honestly I would most likely end up paying for it. I spend over 4 hours a day in VSCode, and it's better than everything else I've used

I bounced around between browsers a lot and settled on Brave. It works great on all my OS (Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android), sync all the extensions and settings, has adblocker on Android.

I could totally see a friend spending 5mn explaining that his cost has gone up 300% when venting while getting a drink together. I don't understand why you're finding this so unbelievable.

For people who want a good chair but don't want to spend that much, you can get a WorkPro 9000 or 12000 for under $500 new, and they're pretty close in term in comfort

+1 on HP Omen. Fits most of your demand except for the 4k screen. I have the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H version and it's significantly faster than the beefiest macbook pro you can buy. Linux runs great on it. It costs ~$1000

Pensions are something they will have to pay. You can't just not pay into it and say you're now making a profit. That's how you end up with the situation in Illinois or California
