Why wouldn't the insurance company have a web app with this information? The web solves nearly all of the problems Apple and Google have created with their ecosystems.

I don't use any AI at all. I would prefer to keep my critical thinking abilities in tact. I use Kagi as my search engine and GitHub code search for searching for code examples. I haven't found a reason to use AI yet.

I mean, my job title is currently "Full Stack Software Engineer" and I manage to get by only writing Typescript. Yes I have to do all of the things mentioned in the article: React, CSS, AWS, Docker, Databases, etc. We do a lot of

If you read enough comments about AI or LLMs on here you will realize the people of Hacker News do live in a different world from reality.

Instant download. Works great. Perhaps on Instagram you can make it save the audio level when the video is muted? If I mute a video then scroll to the next one, the audio still plays. Otherwise, thanks for making this, it's something I

This is cool. Though I think what could be improved is using folder routing, it works surprisingly well.

I disagree. On my website I have a sidebar and a main content area. You are able to scroll through posts on the sidebar and through the content on the main content area. The sidebar is a dark color. Being able to use a thin sidebar and make

GitHub code search is way more useful to me than AI for searching how to do something I need an example of. I do use traditional search engines all the time but GitHub code search is great.

Eh. I make my own software all the time just for myself. I don't publish a lot of my software since the amount of time it takes to make something production ready is 2x or more the amount of time it takes to make a "good enough fo

This is very stereotypical Hacker News blog post. The only thing is, you know you can, like, buy a dishwasher that doesn't connect to Wifi? At this point some things are better with bluetooth/wifi. The laundry machine in my buildi

Why is data engineering so complicated? I'm not a data engineer but was tasked with building an ETL pipeline for a large company. It's all just Step Functions, looping through file streams in a Lambda, transforming, then putting t

What's so difficult about just writing a blog post yourself, in your own writing style? What's so wrong about pure human expression?

Yeah, and I can be a novel writer with AI. I'll have my Amazon best seller in no time thanks to AI! It completely misses nuance. Are any of these apps actually useful? I'm not sure how this is any better than jamming a bunch of Wo

You know, people said the same thing the first time voice assistants came out. They said the same thing when VR came out. Even when 3D printers came out for God's sake. "Everyone will have one!" It's a mistake to think e

I never understood how people find setting a timer on their phone so excruciatingly difficult that they need to buy a $100+ device they can speak to to do it for them. Or perhaps it's another case of shiny object syndrome.
