I always found "wave function collapse" to be a terribly overcomplicated name for a pretty intuitive concept. The first paragraph does a good job explaining the term, but still I wonder how many people stray away from such things

Looks like unregistered two letter .inc domains are going for $2300/yr. Certainly <5% of the cost of a single developer.

There was a very similar discussion on lobsters the other day. You might be interested in reading it. In general, I agree with the idea that writing everything yourself results in a higher quantity of low quality software with security issu

I think I'm having a hard time understanding the value of this piece. Is carefully reading the code you're writing/working on not the default? How on Earth do you write code without understanding what it does?

There's a lot of both negativity and positivity here. I think both are warranted and important. I'm not generally a fan of Musk and think most of his ventures are overhyped. I also understand that Neuralink committed a series of h

It was surprising to me just how many of the banned books have immense literary value. The Color Purple, The Handmaid's Tale, The Kite Runner, etc. aren't random books that may be a little obscene, they're literary classics.

Kind of a nothing story if everything has been replaced. My car could make it to 1.2M km too if I replaced the engine every time it gave out. Seems like a huge time and money sink for no good reason. Not to judge the man for having a hobby

This is a valuable viewpoint that lines up somewhat with some other discussion I've seen on the topic [0]. I'd like to see more posts about structuring code for the auto vectorizor (with libraries or otherwise) rather than writing

"Why should I put in effort to learn when the world already has thousands of writers better than me?" This problem isn't new. People don't create art based on supply and demand. I don't think there's a future w

I'm not sure anonymity online is "the last vestiges of free speech." Free speech existed before the internet. I'm not sure there's an effective solution that's easier and imo the downside here is minimal anyway

What I'm hearing is "I would rather let millions of kids get victimized than allow even the remote possibility of being held accountable for what I say on the internet." In my mind it's all of our problems that children

So your alternative is teaching millions of 40+ year olds how the internet works so they can implement dns blocks on their home routers? Service side age restriction seems much more effective than mandatory parenting classes.

I found that jarring as well. I'm all for mixing in a jovial, even immature tone to keep technical blog posts interesting but at the very least I'd prefer to keep it non-vulgar.

I strongly suspect that said states will still find a way to get federal funds for relief, whether from the president directly (since Trump's stated plan is to replace FEMA with his own discretion) or, in an emergency, through a very q

I'll throw my hat in the anti-Wayland ring. I have a 5-year-old graphics card from the most popular graphics card company in the world. And yet, in 2025, I cannot run Sway/Wayland on my Nvidia 3070 for more than 20 minutes without
