What you are discussing is called linguistic topology and it is far from estalished fact that Spanish is the easiest. I studied the topic but from the perspective of Arabic language instruction for native speakers of English and other lang

But the irony for me was, as a language and linguistics major, I liked the difficulty of CS because this was not in my grasp. I ended up in IT, and I routinely tell people how I failed a midterm in Intro to C++, I had to wind out like a 30

As an IT guy in a university (a satellite campus of US university to be more specific), this shit would not be kosher. We evaluate crap for our people because this school is far from a tech school, and we would never be able to get this ou

And now, you can even have Erlang without the syntax, a la Elixir. But as a novice, I do not understand people whining and whinging about syntax in language X or Y. Every language makes choices, and lots of those choices are emphasized by

Meh, I knew library technologists. None of them had any marketable skills for automation. It was a med library, so they knew the intersection of library sciences and a lot about medicine, but few of them could even conceive of editing the

Funny, I saw this myself years ago with a med school library, where the problem was more severe and with like every paper resource they had. But it was interesting problem. Unlike normal libraries, they are so digital they run into a new p

I ran a whole lab of Litestep customized for a library once. I loved it. Later on, when I got into Linux, I fell in love again with the more exotic WM's largely because of my experience with Litestep. I have to admin Winboxen all day

I also use the word sugar and safari in English. The origins of both these words are well-attested. I know they are both Afro-Asiatic languages, but on different ends of the spectrum (Arabic is a not Cushitic language). It could be an ori

I also find the name somewhat ironic. Xeer clearly comes from خير, or khayr, which is Arabic for good. It is good, but in the higher moralistic and religious sense in addition to the normal sense. So I wonder if it goes back to original i
