I've heard the stories of investors hitting on female founders, and they're just as disturbing to me as they are to you. Unsurprising, but still incredibly unprofessional. Though I'm also unsurprised that looks are mentioned

Wouldn't the outcome that they just start investing less in women due to (subconscious) group association be just as likely? After all, if you're getting investment through your belonging in a certain group, and then never deliver

Yeah, complexity and that we hide the carrots. Bear with me. I still remember a point in my early teens when I decided I wanted to learn to program. I ran into a wall so hard I stopped for a good year or two. The complexity is a considerabl

There was this article I read about crowd decision making, but I cannot for the life of me recall where this tidbit was in, but I found the conclusion interesting. Essentially wisdom of the crowds works when the members have at least some k

The backspace key equivalent of pen and paper is crossing things out/erasing them. If there's a line of writing I don't like, I'll cross it out and start that piece over. If you want to get faster and better at sketching

For me it's both. You're trying to visualize the problem, its parts and how they interact, and you may write down some code for specific sub problems because it just popped into your head and you don't want to context switch.

I guess I'm in the maker/enthusiast camp, but given how I think about these things, a lot of consumer IoT just seems crass and not that well thought out. Ill designed solutions to problems that aren't there. Actually, think o

That's kinda where I as well think the interesting stuff is going to go down. Self driving trucks and automated loading/unloading? Oh boy. But if I start raving about that people think I'm crazy.

There it is, half of those things absolutely terrify me, but they're also exciting. But then that's kinda the thing with new technology isn't it? There was a time when trains were exciting and terrifying machines (and they pr

Good point. I do believe that some very interesting things will come of IoT, it's the crass amounts of enthusiasm some people have regarding it that grinds my gears. The joys of being a killjoy and explaining why your toasters web inte

You'd probably need to put sensible routes through these divvied up plots. You could even specify the location the door needs to be at, and veto things that aren't up to code. It's more of a thing of "default restriction

I still don't get the Internet of Things. The mental calculation just doesn't work out for most things. My personal rule of thumb is: benefitofmeaccessingXremotely(X) - costofotherpeopleaccesingXremotely(X)*riskofthathappening

I think it's a autonomy thing. People that care about their work will care about their work environment, and they're the best stewards for getting that kind of work environment in place. They've got the tightest feedback loop

That kind of self-reflection is something I'm struggling with right now. I'll start doing things, forget I accomplished them, realize I'm halfway into the month and then panic profusely when I don't remember what exactly

That might be a social dynamic thing. Think of how say high school dynamics work. It's never the most popular person that puts others down (it doesn't do them any good), it's the kids that are popular, but not quite. I would

I think there's still way to many things that require dedicated accounts out there, and that erodes our ability to create secure passwords. I think I can handle 3-5 passwords on sites I use on a regular basis just fine. The next 10 sit
