risc-v is an instruction set specification. it doesn't concern much beyond that, so there is nothing special about "risc-v hardware ", which contains many other components at vendor's discretion.

neat! note that gcc's default optimisation level is 0, which really isn't what people normally want. adding -O2 to the gcc command line should improve performance quite a bit.
