You've not refuted the article but merely described it as naive, ridiculous, etc. Whilst it's true that a quiet highway attracts drivers, that doesn't mean that reducing the drivers this article discusses won't deliver benefits.

If you've hired/been hired for a "Data Scientist" role recently, what are the main skills and accomplishments you look for? I could do with a better idea as to whether we're talking someone who's a statistics fan or a distinguished PhD expe

This isn't stupid, in itself. What it's evidence of is the problem with security theatre: when told a bunch of people try to kill their kids daily, nobody examining luggage is going to let something go past and think it is what it probably

The major problem with Government contracts, and often part of the reason the costs seem insane, is that these are about as established/regimented and non-technical an environment as you can imagine. Small companies founded+run by agile hac

I can't help but wonder if Google are trying to ensure they stay as the major non-Apple player. For all the popularity of Android, it is a far less interesting offering for a long-term iPhone user than Windows Phone.

This sounds awesome, nicely done. I've been planning to do a hack like this to demonstrate the realities of interstellar travel, modelled after a game I played as a child.

I spent this last summer interning in the Bay Area. At first I thought Muni was great, but after a few weeks I only took it for particularly out-of-the-way journeys (eg: Golden Gate Park to SOMA). It's a decent enough service, but it's just

Off-by-one errors only affect good programmers. Otherwise you just add enough of such errors that all the under- and over-summing cancels out. 7 years ago, when I was a new programmer, I did use a technique like that to fix some JavaScript.

I'm should be more amazed at how I can wake up with a bugfix to make in the middle of 1500 LOC from the day or days before. It's something of a once-or-twice-the-month event, and tends to pass by without me paying much attention.
