One way techies can affect change is to not do business with the government, particularly law enforcement and military. However, this won't happen, because at the end of the day the only thing people actually care about is money.

If it's publicly accessible, it's pretty much a public space, thus Google ToS is BS. It's the equivalent of walking by the Google office and taking a photo of the building, IMO. This wouldn't hold up in court.

Not surprising, most of the layoffs were probably temporary. Restaurant staff for example will be quickly re-hired as things open back up, and hourly wage earners make up the bulk of people who were laid off.

As a counter point, I have seen technology adopted in the EU in ways that the US has lagged far, far behind. Probably the best example of this is chip & PIN for credit cards. In the US we finally have chips, but still no PIN.
