It's a shame all three suggested use-cases are military. Surely there must me some more noble use for such technology, in theory at least. Otherwise, I've noticed Google Maps has had a really nice 3D-view of some cities for a whil

It seems to have gotten a lot worse lately, and the recruiters all seem to copy each other now: Recruiter: You seem to be a perfect candidate for job A. Really? That's nice. I'll read on to see the offer... Recruiter: The position

There is a Senior Software Engineer at IBM recruited in 2014 who earns $7,278,870,000? [1] How do I get this job? :) EDIT: The application was withdrawn. That saved them some money. [1] http://data.jobsintech.io/companies&#x

I'd say mass-surveillance (dragnet as you say) is always a bad thing, making distinctions based on the location of people isn't much protection since they already have a way around it: we do it to your people, you do it to us and

Sometimes I feel we miss the wood for the trees. Spy agencies implant SPYware, not that surprising. Surely the real story, the original Snowden story, was about PRISM the way large corporations do the bidding for spy agencies letting them t

This looks great! It's interesting to see hardware innovation, self-provisioning "bare metal" and so on. Just one problem, I'm getting an internal server error while verifying my address (home address), and the SMS isn&#

If I have to approve orders on my phone as the video suggests, I may as well create the order then and there. Something about that video (and much of my opinion is based on the video and look of the product) makes me uneasy. It's sugge

This looks awful. Imagine a house full of branded buttons. Yuk. Though I'm sure my toddler would love pressing them endlessly. And all that packaging in the video, the horror. It must an April fools joke.

Lot's of hype (IMO) around Slack, but lot's of money thrown at them so I kept thinking that I'm missing something! Just being skeptical as usual. The other day an invitation arrives to use Slack. Great! Let's see it, thi

I love reading about StackOverflow, particularly their infrastructure. The site has been a useful resource for so many years, and it works so well. It was a joy to discover that it all ran on like two racks worth of servers, and still does.

The improved performance numbers are mind-boggling. Write performance improved an order of magnitude? Up to 95% less overhead? Does this mean the previous versions weren't very good, or have they done something exceptionally smart?

Even with rent prices? If I was single it wouldn't matter, I could live in a shoe-box, but a family needs a little extra room. And we're a very frugal family. It's interesting that growing up in London my single-parent mother

My mistake, I just looked at wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_in_the_United_Kingdom#In... It's 2007 and income distribution is probably per capita rather than average salary. In that case it's no

That's what I suspect, but it's crazy. The average salary in London is £27k, a senior dev will earn 3x that (I'm guessing). And that's still barely enough to live comfortably. I guess that's the point of the campaig

I spent my childhood in London, moving overseas after graduation - not financially motivated. With two kids now I often entertain ideas of moving back, primarily because it really is an amazing city and because of the opportunities my child

I was mistaken that it was skipped. I haven't updated since 1.0.4 and missed it in the changelog (it is there). In hindsight the version makes sense, but I was genuinely surprised by the version number and oblivious to semver, obviousl

I've probably been conditioned by nodejs versioning . I guess this makes sense. Still feels strange.

What is the reasoning behind the version jumps? 1.0.3->1.0.4->1.2.0->1.3.0 Sure, it's just a number, but the changelog isn't that big. Version inflation for no particular reason, apart from marketing, seems a bit silly. W

This is basically a +1 reply but I feel strongly about this point and wish to add my own rant. This persistent idea that one should compile templates on the server is so mindbogglingly inefficient - compared to delegating to clients whose c

I think their long-term goal is probably to replace drivers altogether with driver-less vehicles. It might seem a long way off or even fantasy to some, but carving out a dominant market-share now will mean big profits if/once drivers a

We can already send robots to Mars. The challenge is sending living human beings. Thats where the innovations will come from, that goal will motivate and push progress. "And when [robots] die it is not a national tragedy." Exactly
