The book looks interesting, but I'd much rather an electronic copy rather than a paper book. Is there no digital version?

JSON storage is only half the story, the other half is ease of scaling. Scaling Postgres is not simple, and given enough of the right kind of data, I could see why someone might chose MongoDB. But for quickly iterating on a schema for a new

Indeed: I recently ran into a bug where a field was inserted as a string in some cases and an integer in others. A simple fix, yet more work than I would have had to do had I just configured the field properly in the first place.

Looks good! I've been using json-api-normalizer[1] and redux-object[2] to do something similar. The ORM functionality is a nice difference though, I'll have to try it out. [1] https://github.com/yury-dymov/

I'm planning on trying it to replace some Ruby code that updates our elasticsearch index in a background job. It's currently slow and memory hungry and crystal's similarity to Ruby should make it easy to port.

In principle, it’s mostly other consumers of canabis who will pay, via a “sin tax”. That’s already the case with cigarettes and alcohol.

This. Where I work it's common for features to involve 3-4 repos and it makes testing and deploying a huge pain. This leads to people sticking code in the wrong place as a work around, defeating the purpose of splitting the code into s

Right: my experience is with a lot more complex scenarios, and in comparison to rdbms. Things that would take multiple queries, like aggregations, can be done in a single, fast, call. It does require a proper indexing setup and some fine tu

Elasticsearch is incredibly deep, and highly performant. If all you need is simple full text search then rolling your own can be an interesting exercise, but I can't imagine the amount of hours it would take to replicate the features I

Yeah given how much they paid it’s clear they’re not intending to directly profit from Github’s sales. Allowing free private repos seems a logical step

The rule they’re following is that method names should be verbs, and upcase / downcase are shorter than alternatives like to_upper etc. So while it’s an unusual choice it’s not an arbitrary one

To be fair, the entry for Go that is 3x faster than Gin isn't a framework, it's just an http handling library. But it's clear their benchmarks are not complete enough to be useful; it's unfortunate that Techempower'
