So happy to hear Apple putting African American voices front and center for this initiative. Along with Google’s push to make camera lenses / computational photography more accurate for darker skin (and Apple following suit) this feels

Does this mean if an obese person took this drug for 2-5 years, changed their diet to eat less, they’d keep it off?

I have found that leaving review is generally not worth the effort, nor is reading them. When the system that hosts the reviews is owned by a party that benefits from it, the incentives are skewed so badly that that entire system itself is

The United States was never an empire. In fact the US rejected that ambition at the end of WWII, when the world laid in ruin. Occupation of foreign countries has always been tenuous. What we’re seeing with the Navy is the result of a US dis

I am a massive, massive fan of Thinking Fast and Slow. However, I am careful about application, because a lot of those studies seem not reproducible.

The precise behavior of Airplane mode on iOS / WatchOS is dependent on the user’s interactions. The default is to turn off everything but Bluetooth. But, if you turn Airplane mode ON and then turn Wi-Fi on, iOS will remember this prefe

As anyone who has worked in ML knows, this feature will require some tuning. Tuning that Apple will do. I’m not sure this minor issue warrants rounding up the firing squad to execute the teams that built it.

Stop naming things after people. We’re just going to find out later that they were secretly against Android-human marriage or w/e and everyone will get mad. Or do what my university did for a sports hall and tack on a black athlete’s n

I agree with you, and to my mind the only way to change that thinking is to abolish the death penalty and life imprisonment, and to make the maximum prison sentence 25 years. Then the incentives change really quickly. But until then… most

Circling back to your original point, then: the headline’s framing is misleading because it leaves out potential gun buyers and people applying to federal jobs? Seems like an awfully small minority to be concerned with in… a headline for a

The US is a signatory, but there is nothing in US law that makes being a signatory binding for the creation, amendment, or repeal of any US law. In fact, the opposite is true: the US explicitly maintains sovereignty for its domestic laws in

The law outside its application is meaningless. That’s why there’s so many “Did you know it’s illegal to wash your aardvark on Wednesday” laws still on the books. Regarding drugs and guns — how is that enforced? Can’t see how a gun dealer w

Coca-Cola would be an odd choice, since they don’t deal in this kind of market already. I think a better question would be, “What if Philip Morris got into the pot business?” It would be fascinating and good for consumers because they could

It’s not misleading. It reflects the lived experience of most Americans. That it’s “technically illegal” under federal law means nothing to anyone except — as the article points out — for the industry itself. And since when were national la

Your comment implies the US is somehow bound to this agreement for the making of federal laws. This is not the case and never has been.

Interesting. I wonder, though, how many of those demands were hard requirements and how many were setting up to move towards what they ultimately want. Apple is a long-term investment type company. Keep in mind —- all contracts are re-negot

I suspect we’ll see a return of the page turn animation before the next full release. It doesn’t make sense for them to leave such a basic feature behind, especially since iBooks is a front end to a revenue stream.
