It doesn't matter if a risk does harm a small company - in the worst case it folds and everybody involved jumps into something else. The amount of disruption and economic damage is limited to the participants. If a large company goes b

What terrible news. The independent website is terrible. It is one of the slowest, most bloated sites I've ever used. Average page size is several megabytes, page layout jams during loads and restarts several times.

Please give me a way to switch this off. I appreciate what you're doing, and it seems an improvement for use on a small screen - but on an iphone 6+ it is much worse. Everything was a great balance before (and the comment pages are sti

Don't worry, we all have an idea for a method to solve GI in P tucked in the back of a drawer. Best to just let it go. Personally I know where I got stuck many years ago and I'm very excited to see somebody do it for real.

I would like to see an option for both in a text-editor - they are not as far apart as people assume. In emacs there are not enough chorded options for everything so after a while they switched to dead-key like operations. That is basically

Atom with the ide-haskell package does a pretty good job.

A few reasons for me: 1. Google keep messing around with button placement in their UI and it gets irritating after a while. 2. I would never compose a long (important) email in a web browser in case I lost the page. 3. Gmail is one of many

I still use Apple Mail most days. To read mail - could you expand on your "why?" a little as it seems difficult to understand what you are asking?

The answer was mentioned briefly in the beginning of the article, and then the implications discussed through the rest - it was not entirely obvious. Population rises and falls on long time scales. It acts like a commodity in that the suppl

It would be easier to look at if the birth dates were represented: each of the vertical intervals in time has a cluster of outgoing edges at the top for descendants. This makes things look cluttered and loses information. If these outgoing

Checking the latest figures for 2016: 155B for pensions and welfare 56B. I assume the point is to replace both of those completely with the basic income so the net cost is not 240B, it is 29B. Not cheap, but not pie in the sky either. Sell

Companies are simply a tool that helps a group of people to make a profit. If you remove the group of people then what would be the point?

Interesting article that conveyed something new, so it was a worthwhile read. But did anyone else feel that they had to filter out the gushing / "crankish" bits in there? Particularly the gripes about the impossibility of inv

Just tried it. It is nice, but I think that I've been spoiled by Menlo, which I am now going back to. Not a very high DPI screen but around 14pt Menlo just seems easier on the eyes.

If your problem is memory-bound then no compiler will help you. Memory-mapping a serialisation of the dict would help, but I'm not sure how you would do that outside of an extension lib.

The programming model would look a lot like a GPU does today. If computation was regular and uniformly distributed across the memory then life would easy and everything would work quickly. When computation patterns get chunky there would be

That sounds like server load, more than anything on the client side. When I used it everything was instant and snappy, so it might just depend on the number of visitors. Blowing away the stack by clicking is a bit of a pain. A couple of tim

Why is the usability bad? Pages are pleasant to read in that aspect ratio and it seems to provide a good solution to what to do with the bits around the edges. I like the stack of places that I've been before as context and think that

Seems like a bad idea: adding wealth destruction to a currency that is deflationary by design. It is also unnecessary. Take 2 addresses that you control. Send not one transaction between them, but inside a sequence. Say you want to encode a
